The meeting was held to discuss the transportation section
of the Master Plan. The discussions focused on the
transportation improvements that have been identified for
implementation in the Short Term (1-3 years) .
Tonne Road Improvements
The realignment of Tonne Road north of Devon Avenue will
require right-of-way acquisition. Installation of missing
sidewalk links should be implemented as part of the project
if it will not significantly alter right-of-way needs. The
painted median area will be reviewed for the feasibility of
installing a landscaped median.
Additional studies will be conducted to evaluate the impacts
of the proposed median crossover improvements on both
residential and industrial properties.
The Tonne Road and Elk Grove Boulevard intersection will
also require additional study prior to implementation. The
focus group requested that access to the businesses on the
north side of Touhy Avenue east of Tonne Road be reviewed.
Alternative designs for Tonne Road lighting will be
presented to the Commission by February 1999.

The Devon Avenue and Tonne .Boulevard intersection should be
given a high priority for implementation. Proposed
improvements would potentially improve the bypass traffic
along Maple and Walnut. The project will require
coordination with Cook County, DuPage County and Wood Dale
Lively Boulevard - Devon Avenue to Landmeier Road
Improvements would consist of corner radii improvements and
pavement markings to establish a 3-lane cross section.
North of Landmeier Road on-street parking will be
maintained.
The existing 4-way stop sign control at the Touhy Avenue
intersection should be reviewed.
The Landmeier Road intersection improvements will be
reviewed for right-of-way impacts particularly on the
northeast corner.
Improvements at the Oakton Street intersection are scheduled
for the Mid Term (4-10 years) . The focus group questioned
if the priority should be modified due to the new fire
station. The alignment on Lively Boulevard south of the
intersection will also be studied.
The eastbound to southbound right turn at the Higgins Road
intersection is in need of improvement. The intersection
improvements should be staged to complete turn radii as soon
as possible.
Greenleaf Avenue and Pratt .Avenue
The lighting improvements for these streets are proposed to
be moved to the Short-Term (1-3 year) timeframe.
The improvement of Greenleaf Avenue from Busse Road to
Elmhurst Road should be further reviewed.

Busse Road (Illinois Route 83
The design studies for the intersections at Landmeier Road
and Devon Avenue will be initiated in the Short Term, and
construction implementation will be dependent on right-of-
way acquisition. The eastbound left turn lane on Landmeier
Road lost storage length due to improvements to driveway
access for the Holiday Inn. Also, an increase in left turn
movements has been experienced with the opening of the
Office Depot.
Other Topics Discussed
The construction of sidewalk to provide continuity should be
incorporated in transportation projects, if feasible.
The maintenance of State Highways, Busse Road and Higgins
Road, was discussed by the focus group. Information on the
State's Adopt-A-Highway Program will be obtained for review
by the group.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM.
