MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON FEBRUARY 16,2016
Chairman E. Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Chairman E. Butch Ehrke, Secretary Michael Kontek and
Commissioner Dion Zinnel. Guests present: Chief Steve Schmidt and Chief Richard Mikel.
Secretary Kontek moved that the minutes of the January 19, 2016 meeting be approved as
submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Zinnel
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared
the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice 597608 dated 01/05/2016 from Advocate Occupational Health in the amount
of$430.00 for medical evaluation of firefighter candidate (Milburn).
2. Invoice 817927144001 dated 01/14/2016 from Office Depot in the amount of$61.97
for office supplies
3. Invoice SA30480 dated 01/29/2016 from Stanard and Associates in the amount of
$395.00 for psychological evaluation of firefighter candidate (Milburn).
4. . Invoice 85001 dated 01/31/2016 from Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert& DiNolfo,
Ltd. in the amount of$60.00 for legal review of documents pursuant to Medina
suspension appeal.
5. Invoice dated 01/31/2016 from ISP from Illinois State Police $89.25 for fingerprinting
(FF candidates Oates, Lacy, Boncela).
6. Invoice 1865 dated 12/3/2016 from Conrad Polygraph Inc. for polygraph examinations
for four firefighter candidates (Jensen,Klekamp, Rittenhouse, Orchell).
Commissioner Zinnel moved that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment.
Secretary Kontek seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Ehrke declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Written Reprimand dated 1/28/2016 from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer for
violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section
26.1.1A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 46 (Failure to operate a Village vehicle in a safe and
prudent manner or to obey related traffic laws).
2. Memo from Chief Mikel regarding the six-month performance of Probationary
Firefighters Mauricio Galarza, Michael Beyer, Zachary Schlott and Brian Johnson.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss police officer hiring process.
2. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Discussed expiration date of Police Officer Eligibility List.
MOTION: Secretary Kontek moved that the Police Officer Eligibility List be
extended for six months (new expiration date: 12/27/2016). Commissioner Zinnel
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke
declared the motion carried.
2. Conduct six-month probationary reviews of Firefighters Mauricio Galarza, Michael
Beyer, Zachary Schlott and Brian Johnson.
3. Conduct individual oral interviews for Police Officer candidates 40 and 41.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
1. Firefighter—Eligibility list containing 115 names will expire on September 14, 2017.
2. Fire Lieutenant—Ten names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
November 9, 2017.
3. Police Officer- Six names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to expire on
June 27, 2016; 75 names remain on the preliminary eligibility list.
4. Police Sergeant—Five names remain on the list scheduled to expire on July 7, 2018.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Zinnel and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke
declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:15 p.m.
