HomeMy WebLinkAboutPOLICE PENSION - 04/13/1999 - Minutes of the Elk Grove Village Police Pension Board Meeting held on April 13, 1999, at 901 Wellington, Elk Grove Village, IL Frank Vrchota Asst. Secretary The meeting was called to order at 3:14 p.m. by President Ambrose. Present were Vrchota, Garr, Lancaster,Greenberg,Hilda Ingebrigtsen, and Mary Tomanek of Salomon Barney Consulting Group. The minutes of the last meeting,January 26, 1999 were read. Motion made by Garr, seconded by Lancaster,to approve the minutes. Motion carried. Hilda Ingebrightsen presented Treasurers report which included a balance sheet dated March 31,1999. Motion made by Ambrose seconded by Vrchota to accept the Treasures report and the balance sheet dated March 31, 1999. Motion carried. The Board received a letter from Attorney Reimer advising the board of a recent decision in the class action lawsuit Chicago Heights Police Pension Board vs.Illinois Department of Insurance regarding the annual pension board compliance fees. The ruling was in favor of the individual pension boards to make the fee payment by check if they wish to do so. Ingebrightsen will contact attorney Reimer regarding the first check which was returned to the Board by the Department of Insurance and inquire if the fust check could be destroyed with a second check written and resubmitted to the Department of Insurance. OLD BUSINESS The board received a letter from former officer Dennis Raucci dated February 25,1999 indicating he has made a decision that he is no longer interested in using portability. The board was contacted by attorney Reimer regarding Bob Arnold lawsuit. Attorney Reimer recommended that the Board consider scheduling a deposition of the proper Village staff employee to move towards resolution of the lawsuit. Reimer informed the Board that a calendar hearing is set regarding the matter on April 21, 1999. The board by a unanimous consent authorized attorney Reimer to depose the appropriate Village staff member related to the Arnold case. NEW BUSINESS The board received a letter of resignation from Officer Janice Kopf on April 5, 1999. The board as of yet has not received the proper paperwork indicating a preference of the refund of her pension contributions. Motion made by Greenberg to refund her pension contributions to her once the board receives the properly completed paperwork, seconded by Lancaster. Motion carried. The board received a letter form the Police and Fire Commissioners dated March 26, 1999 announcing the hiring of Officer Sheara Bernstein,effective April 5, 1999. The board received application into the pension fund dated April 5, 1999 from Bernstein. Motion made by Lancaster,seconded by Greenberg to accept Bernstein into pension. Motion carried. The board voted via telephone to make refund of pension contributions to former officer Carl Dover on March 17, 1999 of$25,180.64.Refund was made to Dover on March 31,1999. The board received the paperwork from Village Accounting Supervisor,Shannon Lump,providing information concerning the refund of pension contributions made by former Officer Christopher Chaussee. A refund of$ 1525.26 was paid to Chaussee on November 11, 1998. Motion made by Vrchota, seconded by Ambrose to accept report.. Motion carried. The board received a letter of resignation from Sgt. Jeffrey Hawkins,dated January 29,1999. Hawkins advised the board that as of this time he has not decided what he would like done regarding the refund of his pension contributions. Hawkins indicated that he would notify the board in the future of his intentions regarding the matter. (continued) (April 13, 1999 continued) The Board received a copy of an informational letter from Attorney Reimer dated March 26, 1999,in correspondence to Ms.Reens Juron-Schiffman,Esq.indicating that he has received the Consent to Issuance of a Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Order(QILDRO) regarding the marriage of Officer Warren Moody.Reimer suggests several modifications regarding the order and will keep the Board apprised as he receives further information regarding the matter. The Board has received no new bills since the last meeting. Mary Tomanek of Salomon Smith Barney,presented to the Board, a report, Consulting Group Analyses& Review for the Elk Grove Village Police Pension Fund. The Board will review the report and will report back to Tomanek at the next meeting to discuss the report further. Ambrose announced that the next Board meeting will be held on June 2, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. Motion made by Vrchota, seconded by Lancaster to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
