HomeMy WebLinkAboutPOLICE PENSION - 10/12/1999 - 81, Minutes of the Elk Grove Village Police Pension Board Meeting held on October 12, 1999, at 901 Wellington, Elk Grove Village, IL Myles Greenberg, Secretary 88 The meeting was called to order at 3:45 p.m. by President Ambrose. Present were Garr, Greenberg, and Hilda Ingebrigtsen. Lancaster and Mary Tomanek of Salomon Smith Barney arrived shortly after the meeting started. Absent was Vrchota. The minutes of the last regular meeting, July 13, 1999 and the special meeting for the Celia disability hearing on September 21, 1999 were read. Motion made by Garr, seconded by Lancaster to accept both sets of minutes. Motion carried. Hilda Ingebrigtsen presented Treasurers report which included balance sheet dated September 30, 1999 and disbursement register.. Motion made by Garr, seconded by Lancaster to accept Treasurers report. Motion carried. Old Business The Board received the Decision and Order from atty Reimer for the Celia disability case, and a copy of the hearing transcript. Motion made by Garr, seconded by Lancaster to approve the Decision and Order. Motion carried. The Finance Dept provided the distribution information as follows: Effective date of pension: April 21, 1999 Date of hire: January 08, 1990 Base salary at benefit: $53,716.00 Benefit base salary: $26,858.00 (507) Monthly benefit amount: $2,238. 17 The Board received notice that Judge Schiller ruled in favor of the Board in the lawsuit filed against the Board by Robert Arnold, and indicated that disabillity benefits should not be paid when the Board finds that a member is no longer disabled. Board atty Reimer also received a notice that Arnold has filed an appeal of Judge Schiller's ruling to the Appellate Court. Atty Reimer will continue to represent the Board in the matter. Mary Tomanek presented an updated report on the status of the Fund's investments. New Business On July 15, 1999 all Board members were contacted via telephone and approved sending Craig Celia to three independent physicians for his evaluations for his disability application. The Board received the annual medical reports from Dr. Ryan for disabled members Stone and Schaefer. Dr. Ryan indicates both Stone and Schaefer continue to remain disabled, however Stone is capable of heavy duty "in-house". The Board will correspond with Dr. Ryan for a clarification of this. The Board received a request of pension benefits from Fred Englebrecht, who retired August 13, 1999. The Finance Dept provided the distribution information as follows: Date of retirement: August 13, 1999 Effective date of pension: August 14, 1999 Date of hire: August 13, 1962 Creditable service: 37 years, 0 months Base salary at retirement: $94,463.00 Longevity adjustment: $ -0- Pension base: $94,463.00 Retirement base salary: $70,847.25 (757) Monthly benefit amount: $5,903.94 Eligible for increase: September 01, 2000 Amount of increase: $2,125.42 (37) New monthlty benefit amount: $6,081.06 ( continued ) i ( October 12, 1999 continue The Board received the following bills: $1,287.50 for July legal fees for atty Reimer re: Arnold and Celia $531.25 for August legal fees for atty Reimer re: Arnold and Celia $625.00 for balance due Dr. Ronald Baron for exam of Craig Celia $1,150.00 for Dr. Harley Rubens for exam of Craig Celia $2,600.00 for Dr. Henry Conroe for exam of Craig Celia $345.00 for Dr. James Ryan for exam of Jeff Stone $345.00 for Dr. James Ryan for exam of Charles Schaefer $650.00 for annual membership dues for IPPFA $153.55 for court reporter Michelle Marvin for Celia hearing Motion made by Lancaster, seconded by Garr to pay these bills. Motion carried. Ambrose announced the next Board meeting will be January 11, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. at 901 Wellington, Elk Grove Village IL Motion made by Garr, seconded by Lancaster to adjourn the meeting.
