The Youth Survey results were discussed. In some regards, the surveys hurt the Park
District. The results on the skateboard park indicated that more students did not want a
skateboard park as opposed to those who do. People have been using these results to
argue that a skateboard park is not needed. Chris Prochno reminded the Commission that
is was an unscientific study and it should not be viewed in that manner.
Youth Commissioners
Chris Prochno noted the need for a Commissioner from Mead Junior High, Conant High
School and Queen of the Rosary. Suggestions were given on how to make students aware
of the need. Some suggestions were:
• Place an article in the school newspaper.
• Have coaches make an announcement on the Park District teams.
• Make an announcement at summer camps.
• Place signs in Walmart, Tastee Dawg and Dairy Queen.
Some discussion ensued about the Teen Center regarding making the Teen Center more
comfortable. This could be accomplished'. by providing some type of cushions for the
chairs. Commissioner Prochno asked if the Commission would be interested in putting a
team together for the"Relay for Life" Cancer Funding Raising Event which is scheduled
for August 14th and 15th. She will call later this month to see if there is enough of an
interest.
Amy asked if all the Commissioners could receive copies of the Survey Results.
Commissioner Prochno promised to send them out with the minutes of this meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m. There will be no July meeting do to the 4th of July
holiday. The next meeting will be on Saturday, August 1, 1998 at 8:00 a.m.

Build a hangout within walking distance.
Make more safe places a teen can go.
Make somewhere we can go when we have free time that does not cost a lot.
Make a"cool hang out"where we don't get kicked out of.
Give us something fun to do.
Help keep kids off drugs and the streets.
You really should consider building an ice rink! Everyone here has to go to a
different town just for that! The first couple of years will be work, but the rest of
the time will be profit!!
