Lahtinen Cheryl O'Malley Chris Prochno Michael Urban Absent: Katy Bratko Pat Feichter David Gaeger Ashley Taylor It was noted for the record that the Beanie Baby collection that was donated by the Youth Commission for the Live Auction at the Camelot on the Green Dinner Party raised $625.00 for the Beautification Fund, Chris Prochno advised that she will include copies of the Camelot on the Green Progam with the mailing of the minutes so that the Youth Commissioners could see their names on the program. On the subject of what type of facility the youth of the community would prefer to see put in place would be a dance club over a coffeehouse. Marge Hart has conducted various focus groups at Conant and Elk Grove high schools and had been advised of this conclusion. Chris Prochno as well visited various classrooms at Elk Grove Village High School and came up with the same end result. The Youth Commissioners advised that they would like to be included in any future focus groups that are planning on being held. Cheryl O'Malley will contact or pass along any future meetings on this subject. The Youth Commissioners advised that they would offer their support in any way the Park District would like. Chris has the name of a local band that would be willing to play at the dance club. Bryan has the name of two bands. Cheryl will call Chris with more details after she talks to Marge. On the subject of"Pen Pals", Bryan could not find anyone willing to be a pen pal other than himself. Mike offered to be one. Amy Herrick offered to talk to her English teacher to see if she would ask her students if they wished to participate. Barb suggested making a flyer and distributing it at the Pavilion. 2 "Make A Difference Day" on Saturday, October 24, 1998 the Commissioners will volunteer to work at the Elk Grove Senior Center to help out with their intergenerational Halloween party. The following Commissioners will be in attendance: Mike Urban Bryan Keyworth Ashley Taylor Barb Lathinen Chris Prochno Those Commissioners not in attendance at this meeting will call Chris to let her know if they will be in attendance. It was also decided that costumes should be required. Cheryl talked with Gary Buskowski of the Elk Grove Village Park District and volunteered the Youth Commission to help clean up one of the parks this spring. November 4, 1998 is the planned date that the Youth Commission is planning on having their first "Recycled Fashion Show". This fashion show will be held at Elk Grove High School at 8:30 a.m. So far, the following, Youth Commissioners will be models. The meeting concluded at 8:55 a.m. The next meeting of the Youth Commissioners will be on Saturday, October 24, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hattendorf Center. c: President and Board of Trustees, Park District Board, Village Clerk, Village Manager, Assistant Village Manager, Assistant to the Village Manager, Administrative Intern, Police Chief, Youth Commission Members
