Youth Scholarships
Tom shared the Youth Commission applications with the Commission. It has now been
approved by both the Park District and the Village Board. Chris will have copies made
of the application and will distribute them to Conant High School, Elk Grove High
School, and Village Hall.
The Scholarship will be promoted through the school newspapers, Channel 6, news
releases to the local newspapers and the Village message board. Chris will number the
applications as they come in. The Commission will meet and select four(4) candidates to
recommend to the Park District and Village Board for their final approval.
Make a Difference Day
Chris asked the Commission members to think about a project that they would like to get
involved with for"Make a Difference Day."
Suicide Prevention —Yellow Ribbon Campaign
Ashley attended a meeting and dinner for the Yellow Ribbon Campaign. She has become
very involved with the program and will work on it at Elk Grove high School. The
Commission will encourage Brian to do the same at Conant. There was some discussion
as to whether we should get a table at Rotaryfest to share information. Perhaps we could
just leave literature on the Village table. Tont will talk to Channel 6 about possible
coverage.

Membership
Tom informed the Commission that Ron Foster is the new back-up member for the
Commission.
Village Parade
Since the Youth Commission has selected "Flag Day" as the theme for their float, they
have decided to sponsor a"Flag Day" poster contest for grades K through 8°'. Chris will
make up a flyer and distribute it to the various schools. There will be a $50.00 savings
bond awarded at each grade level and the winning posters will be part of the parade
float's decoration. The poster can be no larger than posterboard size. Chris will also
write a letter to the Lion's requesting their financial support through a donation.
At our next meeting it was suggested that we discuss the possibility of having a page on
the Village web site.
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m. The next meeting will be at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday,
April 1, 2000.
