CHERNICK CONFERENCE ROOM Members In Attendance: Tom Cooke Pat Feichter Ron Foster Barb Lahtinen Marian Noehre Chris Prochno Ashley Taylor Members Absent: Brian Keyworth Mike Urban Chris Prochno reported that the two car washes held were a success for the Youth Commission. Funds raised at the first car wash totaled $147.00 in tips for the Commission. The second car wash funds totaled $152.00, which was donated to the Park District for the scholarship fund. The car wash that was held on October 28'h totaled $228.00. Fifty-one dollars was spent for pizza and pop for those working the car wash. Approximately $325.00 will be donated to the Yellow Ribbon Campaign — Teen Suicide Prevention. A thank you was relayed to Boy Scout Troop 495 for their assistance at both car washes. The youth Commission will be participating in the WACO Shopping project on December 9, 2000. All participants should meet at Wal-Mart by 7:00 a.m. Once again, Chris will take funds out of the Youth Commission account to help pay for some of the gifts. The Commission agreed to adopt a family for Thanksgiving and for Christmas. Ron Foster offered to purchase a $150.00 gift certificate from Dominick's to go into one of the baskets. Pat Feichter will purchase a gift certificate from Jewel. Com Cooke will donate the turkey. Chris will notify the Commission as soon as we have the family for Christmas so that presents can be bought for them. She will request a Hispanic family. Marian will help with the shopping. Chris discussed with the Commission, Mayor Johnson's suggestion that Trick or Treating be held on a Saturday, regardless of what day Halloween falls on. The Commission discussed the idea and unanimously agreed that they would like to keep Trick or Treating on the holiday itself, no matter what day it fell on. 2 Chris talked a little bit about the Hometown Parade coming in June of 2001. The theme will be `Space Oddessy, 2001'. The Commission agreed to do a float for the Parade again. Tom will check to see if the Park District flatbed is available again to use. Marian suggested that we all start looking for costume ideas as soon as possible. The said that there is a Halloween show in March that we should attend to get ideas. She also has a friend who owns a shop called "Magiqu,". She will try to come up with some ideas for us too. There will be no meeting on December 2, 2000. The next meeting of the Youth Commission will be on Saturday, January 5, 2001 at 8:00 a.m. in the Chernick Conference Room.
