HomeMy WebLinkAboutYOUTH COMMISSION - 03/06/2002 - V� ELK GROVE VILLAGE Ott` Youth Commission Meeting March 6, 2002 9CF O& G� 7:30 p.m. Present SCF Gina Alberga Barb Lahtinen Bill O'Malley Sammi Carfagnini Brirtany Marques Jackie Pierce Chris Chesterfield Marian Noehre Chris Prochno Katie Duffy Casey Nunes Ashley Taylor Pat Feichter Ron Nunes Becky Valerio The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. Trustee Prochno introduced Jackie Pierce from the Elk Grove Park District. Jackie is in charge of teen programming and Pirates Cove. Jackie gave some background on what she does for the Park District. She offered to help the Youth Commission with any activities that use Park District facilities. The Youth commission voted to sponsor a dance on May 3, 2002 for Junior High aged students. The dance was originally scheduled to be held at the Teen Center. Jackie suggested switching the location to the Pavilion. She stated hat the Pavilion would give the teens the opportunity to also play basketball and participate in other activities with far more space. The Commission agreed with Jackie. Jackie offered to find a DJ for the dance and share her experience with us. The name of the dance will be "The Last Dance." A $2.00 admission will be charged and a donation for the food pantry would be appreciated. The dance will run from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will be staffed and chaperoned by Park District employees as well as Youth Commission members. There will be a concession stand. Pizza, chips and soda will be sold to help defer expenses. A dance sub-committee will meet on Monday, March 18`h at 7:30 p.m. in the Chemick Conference Room to work on details pertaining to the dance. The Commission also agreed to focus on issues related to Junior High aged students. High School issues seem to be being addressed in the community. The Summer Blast Splash Party dates were announced. They are June 2I't , July 19`h and August 91h. The next scheduled meeting of the Youth Commission will be Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in the Chernick Conference room.
