Zoning Variation-Docket 97-7
Chairman Robert Phillips called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and summarized
the legal notice for the hearing. The petitioners, Dennis and Paulette McGee were sworn in
and asked to state their case.
Mrs. McGee explained that it would be more economical to extend their existing
garage as opposed to constructing a detached garage in the rear yard. Mrs. McGee also
explained that they own four(4)cars and currently have to rent garage space. Mr. Phillips
asked if there is any other hardship. Mrs. McGee responded, no. Mr. Phillips then read a
letter forwarded to the Zoning Board of Appeals from neighboring resident. In the letter,
Arthur&Marion Ibbotson (1204 Springdale Lane), stated that they are opposed to granting
the variance because it would allow the garage to be too close to the neighbor's bedrooms.
Mr. Phillips then asked if there was anyone attending who wished to speak. Mrs.
Diane Gara (1205 Springdale Lane),told the Board that she did no want to be boxed-in and
that she is worried how the garage expansion would effect the resale value of her property.
Mr. Phillips then asked each member of the Board if there was any questions. Mr.
Schumm asked Mrs. McGee if there is any proposed plans. Mrs. McGee stated that there is
not at this time, but she has spoken with a contractor. Mr. Schumm asked why the house is
for sale. Mrs. McGee responded that the house will be sold if the variance is not granted.
Mr. Hauser asked if the existing garage wall would be moved out. Mrs. McGee
replied, yes. Mr. Hauser asked if there would be enough room along the side for a lawn
mower. Mrs. McGee replied, yes. Mr. Hauser stated that he thought that the driveway
could be expanded without adding onto the garage and fulfill the same purpose.
Mr. Thompson asked if the house is still for sale. Mrs. McGee explained that it
was, but is not currently for sale because of pursuing the variance. Mr. Thompson asked
how Mrs. McGee thought the variance would effect property values. Mrs. McGee replied,
not much. Mr. Thompson asked if Mrs. McGee if she thought the garage expansion would
have an adverse effect on neighboring kids. Mrs. McGee responded, no. Mr. Phillips
asked if Mrs. McGee had anything further to say. Mrs. McGee responded, no.
At 7:17 p.m., Mrs. Coffinan motioned for a vote which was seconded by Mr.
Thompson. The vote was unanimously in favor of denying the variation. The meeting was
adjourned at 7:19 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
