MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
i OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
k` HELD ON.JANUARY 13,2006
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901
Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present:
Chairman Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, Commissioner Michael P. Kontek and
Commission Attorney John Kelly.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ebrke that the minutes of
December 20, 2005 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the
reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried.
It was moved by Chairman Shapiro and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the agenda be
amended to include a brief update by Commission Attorney John Kelly. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly&Cooper, Invoice 16378 dated 12/31/2005 in the
amount of$1,200.00 for 2006 annual retainer fee.
2. Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly& Cooper,Invoice 16379 dated 12/31/2005 in the
amount of$848.00 for legal services rendered regarding police officer's appeal of the
Commission's findings and decision.
3. United Visual—Invoice REN-0623-1 dated 01/13/2006 in the amount of$90.00 for
rental of video screens for police candidate orientation.
4. Suburban Chicago Newspapers—Invoice S1050775000 dated 12/31/2005 in the
amount of$169.81 for publication of an advertisement for police applicants.
5. The Korea Daily News—Invoice 21004281 dated 12/30/2005 in the amount of 80.00
for publication of an advertisement for police applicants.
6. The Blue Line—Invoice dated 11/21/2005 in the amount of$397.00 for internet
posting of employment ad for police applicants.
7. Office Max—Invoice 434892 dated 1/06/06 in the amount of 56.05 for office supplies.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.

CORRESPONDENCE
1. Letter to John Kelly requesting his review of a draft to Fire Chief concerning
announcement of a fire lieutenant promotional process.
2. Email from John Kelly regarding recommendations on memo announcing the fire
lieutenant promotional process.
3. Memo from FPC to Fire Chief announcing that a fire lieutenant promotional process
will commence in January 2007.
4. Letter from John Kelly announcing a new rate scale effective January 1, 2006.
5. Memo to Fire Chief and Police Chief requesting notification when their personnel are
recognized at Village Board meetings.
6. Memo notifying the Village Clerk that the Regular Meeting of the Fire&Police
Commission has changed from January 17, 2006 to January 13, 2006 at 6:00 p.m.
OLD BUSINESS
1) None
NEW BUSINESS
1) John Kelly provided the Commission with a status update of police officer's appeal.
2) Discussed calendar dates for police examination process.
PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process—seven vacancies. Eligibility list is exhausted.
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—four vacancies plus one on military leave; no authorization
to replace at this time. Twenty-eight names remain on the current eligibility list
scheduled to expire on February 2, 2007.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the
motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
