Number of pages attached: 1 Date(s)of review for release: December.2005 Date of approval for release: 01/11/05 7:15 p.m. Homeland Security The Board of Trustees was informed that the Village had been selected as one of three Chicago locations to host registration and voting for the upcoming Iraqi elections. The Chicagoland area was one of five locations throughout the country where Iraqi citizens would be able to vote. The other four national locations were in Washington D.C.,Los Angeles,Detroit and Nashville. The Village only became aware of this selection after receiving a bulletin from the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) to be vigilant of suspicious activity and warning of attacks near the polling location. The actual location was to be a strip mall along Busse Road. Of the 45,000 Iraqi nationals in the Chicagoland area, as many as 31,000 would be eligible to vote. The Village had been informed that security would only be provided at the polling location itself. The Village would be responsible for all other security details at a cost of approximately $90,000. In a conference call to the White House, the Village indicated that the Elk Grove Business Park would not be an ideal location for holding elections due to our location to previously identified terrorist targets, as well as several other logistic issues. Although it was noted that if the Village were required to host the registration and voting we would be great hosts, the Village has been notified that Elk Grove is no longer being considered for this request. The meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
