Tour of Elk Grove Special Edition Newsletter
Upon making minor modifications to the newsletter,the consensus of the Committee was to approve
the Special Edition Tour of Elk Grove newsletter for distribution.
Administration and Public Safety Complex
Andy Jones and Ernie Spina of MTI, and Ray Lee of SRBL made a presentation to the
Committee regarding the current construction schedule for the new Administration and Public
Safety Complex. The group then presented the option of constructing an environmentally
friendly, LEED Certified, green building.
The certification process requires both green features and documentation of those features. To
construct a LEED Certified building, state of the art construction materials and innovative
designs would be used such as, renewable materials,roof gardens to minimize storm water run
off, high efficiency lighting and HVAC systems, low energy mechanical equipment, and
reflective windows among others. Architect Ray Lee noted that LEED certified buildings offer a
return on investment due to lower maintenance and reduced energy costs. It was suggested that
the Village receive a return on investment in approximately five years. It was the consensus of
the Board to proceed with the LEED Certification for the new building at an increased budget of
$2 million. The total budget for the new building will be$31 million plus the cost of the
temporary facility.
