MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OFT BOARD
E O S COMMISSIONERS OF HVLAGOF ELK GROVEA
HELD ON August 21,2007
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Charles J.Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue,Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the
following were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro,DDS,and Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
and Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of July 10,2007 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Alexian Brothers Corporate Health,Invoice 243453 dated August 13,2007 in
the amount of$680.00 for pre-employment medical evaluation of police
candidate.
2. FedEx Kinkos,Invoice 6300000842 dated March 31,2007 in the amount of
$14.94 for lamination charges.
3. Suburban Chicago Newspapers,Invoice in the amount of$520.47 for
publication of firefighter ad.
4. Chicago Tribune,Invoice in the amount of$693.00 for publication of
firefighter ad(rate reduced due to ad not being run on date requested).
5. Daily Herald, Invoice in the amount of$950.00 for publication of firefighter ad.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Letter from Chief David Miller appointing George W.Burger to the rank of
Fire Lieutenant effective 7/16/2007 and appointing Ronald C.Naida to the rank
of Fire Lieutenant effective 7/17/2007.
2. Written Reprimand to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the
Elk Grove Village Police Department,Section 26.1.1A,Rules of Conduct,Rule
34(Engaging in any activity,conversation,deliberation,or discussion which is
derogatory to the Department,any member,or policy of the Department).
3. Copy of Fact Sheet announcing the Firefighter Examination scheduled for
September 23,2007.
4. Letters to police candidates scheduling their individual oral interviews.

5. Letters to Firefighter Burger and Firefighter Naida congratulating them on their
appointment to the rank of Fire Lieutenant.
6. Letter from police candidate confirming in writing,his decision to have his
name removed from our Police Eligibility List.
7. Memo to Chief Schmidt requesting comments/constructive criticism on the
performance of Probationary Officer Brandi Mathis and advising of Ofc.
Mathis' final probationary review scheduled for 8/21/07 at 7:00 pm.
8. Memo to Chief Schmidt requesting comments/constructive criticism on the
performance of Probationary Ofcs. Michael Patras and Michael McIntyre.
Ofcs. Patras and McIntyre are scheduled to report for their final probationary
reviews on 9/18/07.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed schedule for firefighter examination.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Commission instructed Secretary to survey other departments to determine if
they offer credit for military service during the initial hiring process for police
officer and firefighter candidates.
PENDING
1. Police Officer Hiring Process—one vacancy;authorization to replace one.
Twenty-nine names remain on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on
March 30,2009.
2. Firefighter Hiring Process—seven vacancies;no authorization to replace at this
time. Eligibility List has expired.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the
meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
