OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON OCTOBER 18,2007
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Charles J.Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were
present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro,DDS,and Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,and Commissioner
Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of September 18,2007 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board
dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 4811 dated September 26,2007 in the amount of
$16,571.00 for administration fees for firefighter written examination.
2. Daily Herald, Invoice T3968561 dated August 19,2007 in the amount of$950.00
for advertising firefighter examination process.
3. Chicago Tribune, Invoice 238663001 dated September 25,2007 in the amount of
$693.00 for advertising firefighter examination process.
4. DLS Printing&Promotion, Invoice 34018 dated September 24,2007 in the
amount of$95.00 for polo shirts with Fire&Police Commission imprint.
5. Office Max,Invoice 417595 dated September 14,2007 in the amount of$152.94
for misc. office supplies.
6. Theodore Polygraph Service, Inc., Invoice 16200 dated September 25,2007 in the
amount of$125.00 for polygraph examination of police candidate.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo to Human Resources Coordinator advising that Ofcs. Michael Patras and
Michael McIntyre have satisfactorily completed their probationary period and are
hereby appointed to the permanent position of police officer in the Elk Grove
Village Police Department.
2. Memo to Village Clerk advising that the October 16,2007 regular meeting of the
Board of Fire&Police Commissioners has been changed to October 18, 2007 at
6:00 p.m.
• 3. Letter to Ofc. Andrew Jensen appointing him to the rank of Sergeant effective
October 15, 2007.
4. Congratulations letter to Sgt. Keith Briggs on his appointment to the rank of
Commander.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed schedule for firefighter examination and multiple group interviews.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Discuss request from firefighter candidate unable to complete physical ability test
due to injury. Commissioners instructed recording secretary to obtain written
incident reports from witnesses and forward all information to Village Attorney
and Fire&Police Commission Attorney.
PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process—two vacancies;authorization to replace two.
Twenty-six names remain on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on
March 30,2009.
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—seven vacancies;authorization to replace two at this
time. Eligibility list has expired;new testing process underway.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
