HELD ON NOVEMBER 20,2007 ICF
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Charles J.Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were
present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro,DDS, and Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,and Commissioner
Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of October 18, 2007 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 4852 dated October 30, 2007 in the amount of
$515.00 for psychological evaluation of police candidate(Jump).
2. Daily Herald,Invoice T3995280 dated October 16,2007 in the amount of$32.40
for publication of meeting location change.
3. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 16251 dated November 15,2007 in the
amount of$375.00 for polygraph evaluations of three police candidates.
4. Illinois Fire&Police Commissioners Association,Annual Membership Invoice
for 2008 dated November 1,2007 in the amount of$375.00.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Email from Chief Miller requesting that the Commission post notice for initiation
of a Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process.
2. Response email to Chief Miller advising that the Commission is unable to post
notice for Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process.
3. Memo to Chief Schmidt requesting comments and/or constructive criticism on the
performance of Probationary Officer Meredith Heyland.
4. Memo from Chief Schmidt regarding the performance of Probationary Officer
Meredith Heyland.
5. Draft Letter from Village Attorney to firefighter candidate regarding her standing
in the testing process.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discuss firefighter hiring process and timeline. Commission instructed
Recording Secretary to e-mail Fire Chief to advise that we will be unable to meet
a hire date of March 3,and to see if there is an alternate academy that would
begin in April.
2. Discussed status of request from firefighter candidate unable to complete physical
ability test due to injury. Reviewed Village Attorney's draft letter. It was moved
by Chairman Shapiro and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the letter be
approved for distribution to the fire candidate. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
1. None
PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process—two vacancies; authorization to replace two.
Twenty-five names remain on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on
March 30,2009.
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—seven vacancies; authorization to replace two at this
time. Eligibility List has expired.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
