HomeMy WebLinkAboutVILLAGE BOARD - 06/05/1961 - VILLAGE BOARD MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILLINOIS, HELD ON JUNE 5, 1961 The following notice was directed to-the President, Attorney and all Trustees on June 2, 1961: "Pursuant to an agreement by the Board at the Regular Meeting May 22, 1961, you are hereby notified of a Special Meeting to be held at the Ira L. Rupley School on Monday, June 5, 1961 at 8:00 PPI for the purpose of discussing the Appropriation Ordinance." On Saturday June 33 1961 the above named persons were notified by the Clerk that there was no room available at the Rupley School for use of the Board and that arrangements had been made to meet at Ridge School. The President and Trustees were also notified by the Clerk on June 4, 1961 that Trustee Zettek had a matter regarding an expenditure by the Fire Dept. that he requested approval to discuss at the meeting on June 52 1961. President James R. Gibson called the meeting to order at 8:17 PM at the Ridge School and directed the Clerk to call the roll. Upon the roll being called the following Trustees answered "PRESENT" - Dillon, Hartshorn, Keith, Smith, Young, Zettek; "ABSENT" - none. Also present at this meeting was Fire Chief John A. Mergens. It was moved by Trustee Dillon and seconded by Trustee Young that the Board dispense with the usual order of business and proceed to the business at hand. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the President declared the motion carried. Trustee Zettek stated that during sub-committee discussion regarding 1961-62 appropriations, members of said committee agreed to incorporate in the proposed Appropriation Ordinance the amount of $1200.00 to cover expenses for the following request of the Fire Dept. : Reimbursement for loss of income, room and board, and travel expense for six men of the Fire Dept. to attend the 37th annual program at the Illinois Fire College at Urbana, I11.0 under the sponsorship of the University of Illinois; Division of University Extension in cooperation with the Illinois Fire Service Organizations and agenciesi Trustee Zettek stated further that at the time the request was made it was expected that this program would be held in July or August, however, Chief Mergens had informed Trustee Zettek that the dates are June 12,13,14,15thj, and that expenses have now been requested as follows: approximately $950.00 to cover loss of income, travel expenses, and room and board, for six men. Chief Mergens stated that this school offers a tremendous program and while it is not mandatory, it is highly recommended and provides excellent training for the men. There are a total of 10 classes offered and each of the 6 men would attend a different class with the possible exception of more than 1 man attending a class in which more than one interpretation would be beneficial. It was moved by Trustee Dillon and seconded by Trustee Young that the Board authorize the expenditure of not more than $1000.00 for expenses of 6 men of the Fire Dept. to attend the Illinois Fire College June 12 thru June 15th, 1961. The President directed the Clerk to call the roll and upon the roll being called the following Trustees answered "AYE" - Dillon, Hartshorn, Keith, Smith, Young, Zettek; whereupon the President declared the motion carried. It was moved by Trustee Zettek and seconded by Trustee Young that the meeting be adjourned for Committee-of-the-whole discussion of the Appropriation Ordinance,, The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the President declared the motion carried, and the meeting adjourned at 8:48 PM.
