HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 09/09/2008 - MEETING MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, and Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of August 12, 2008 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. Daily Herald, Invoice T4090678 dated 08/04/2008 in the amount of$27.00 for publication of meeting change. 2. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 16704 dated 08/19/2008 in the amount of $375.00 for polygraph examination of three police candidates. 3. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 16709 dated 08/20/2008 in the amount of $500.00 for polygraph examination of four firefighter and police candidates. 4. Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 5101 dated 09/03/2008 in the amount of $3032.00 for psychological evaluations for six firefighter candidates. 5. Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 5106 dated 09/04/2008 in the amount of$500.00 for psychological evaluations for firefighter candidate. 6. Daily Herald, Invoice T4100188 dated 9/5/2008 in the amount of$32.40 for publication of meeting change. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE i 1. Letter of Retirement from Police Officer Robert Indurante effective September 11, 2008. 2. Retirement congratulations to Ofc. Robert Indurante after thirty years of service to the Elk Grove Village Police Department. 3. Memo from Chief Schmidt and his staff regarding recommending that i Probationary Officer's Dredge, Gottwald and Pelayo be granted permanent employee status. 4. Memo from Chief Schmidt on the six-month performance of Probationary Ofc. Miguel Mosqueda. Minutes of the Regular Meeting September 9,2008 Page 1 of 2 5. Memo to Chief Schmidt announcing a new Sergeant's Promotional Testing Process. Written Examination to be administered on November 18, 2008. OLD BUSINESS 1. None NEW BUSINESS 1. Discussed status of firefighter candidate that failed to submit transcripts in a timely manner. Motion made by Chairman Shapiro to allow candidate to remain on eligibility list since transcripts were provided. The motion was seconded by Secretary Ehrke and was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. It should be noted however that due to public safety issues, we needed to fill three spots immediately, and therefore it was necessary to bypass this candidate until transcript issue was resolved. ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS 1 Police Officer—one vacancy. Thirty-one names remain on the current eligibility list which is scheduled to expire on August 1, 2010. 2 Firefighter—three vacancies; authorization to replace three. Forty names remain on the current eligibility list which is scheduled to expire on January 18, 2010. 3 Police Sergeant Eligibility List—eligibility list expired. Testing process to commence November 18, 2008. 4 Fire Lieutenant List—two names remain on the current eligibility list which is scheduled to expire on June 24, 2009. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m. i Respectfully submitted, i E.
