Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek M
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and noted for the record that
all Commission members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, Secretary E.
Butch Ehrke, and Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. Guest: Kristina Wells, an Elk Grove
Village resident and Columbia College student.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of September 9, 2008 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board
dispense with the reading thereof. The motion.was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Adjournment to Executive Session (6:09 p.m.) - It was moved by Chairman Shapiro and
seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board adjourn to Closed Session for the
purpose of conducting a disciplinary matter with a Police Officer. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
Return to Open Session (6:20 p.m.) - It was moved by Chairman Shapiro and seconded by
Commissioner Ehrke that the Board return to Open Session. The motion was voted upon
by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Alexian Brothers Corporate Health, Invoice 293230 dated 9/22/2008 in the
amount of 52628.00 for pre-employment medical for four firefighters.
2. Alexian Brothers Corporate Health, Invoice 294303 dated 9/26/2008 in the
amount of S450.00 for pre-employment stress tests for two firefighters.
3. Police Consultants, Invoice 5133 dated 9/26/2008 in the amount of S516.00 for
psychological evaluation of police officer candidate.
4. Police Consultants, Invoice 5125 dated 9/26/2008 in the amount of$516.00 for
psychological evaluation of firefighter candidate.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.

CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo to Human Resources advising that Probationary Police Officers Dredge,
Gottwald and Pelayo have been granted permanent employee status.
2. Notice of Suspension to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of
the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules of Conduct,
Rule 49 (Failure to Appear in Court When Required or Scheduled). Memo to
Police Officer requesting appearance before the Board of Fire and Police
Commissioners. .

PENDING
1) Police Officer—no vacancies. Twenty-seven names remain on the current
eligibility list scheduled to expire on August 1, 2010.
2) Firefighter— no vacancies. Thirty-nine names remain on the current eligibility
list scheduled to expire on January 18, 2010.
3) Police Sergeant Eligibility List—Eligibility list expired. Testing process to
commence November 18, 2008.
4) Fire Lieutenant List—Two names remain on the current eligibility list
scheduled to expire on June 24, 2009.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the
meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
