PROCHNO Village Trustee- Pursuant to a duly made and approved motion and a majority vote at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Village President and Board of Trustees on March 18, 2008, this Executive Session was called to consider a Personnel matter. Number of pages attached: 1 Date(s) of review for release: October 2008 Date of approval for release: 0 03/18/2008 8:55 p.m. PERSONNEL The Village Manager updated the Board on the status of the federally funded SAFER Grant. The Fire Chief was notified of the Village's award of the 5-year SAFER Grant. The Village now must accept the Grant. The Village Manager anticipates a high turnover rate in the next 5 years due to a combination of existing openings, disability, and retirements. Due to the lengthy process needed to train firefighters and paramedics, the Village Manager suggests the Village accept the grant to remain proactive to meet future staffing needs. The additional five employees will carry the Village through the peak retirement years and help bridge the gap between retirements and hiring/training of new staff. The additional employees are anticipated to reduce overtime costs by$343,065.00 for Fiscal Year 2009 and reduce overtime by$1.2 million over five years. It was the consensus of the Board to add the positions now in 2008. In 2013 when the grant is complete, the Village Board will consider revisiting the authorized strength. The meeting was adjourned at 8:59 p.m.
