COORDINATOR'S REPORT -- January 1983
i
I
The month of December was dominated by Christmas - related projects. The
Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive was quite successful, yielding -a total of
$2,036.01. Ten individual residents and nine local service clubs volunteered
a total of 88.5 hours during the first three weekends in December.
Donations for our Christmas Basket Exchange were plentiful. Twenty-six
food baskets were donated by local businesses and residents in addition to
$875 from service organizations for the purchase of gift certificates.
($500 from Rotary Club, $200 from Fraternal Order of Police, $100 from Knights
of Columbus and $75 from private residents. ) Food and clothing gift certificates
were purchased with these funds. The Grant Wood Senior Center donated over
100 Christmas gifts which were distributed with the baskets. In all, forty
Elk Grove Village families were helped during the holidays through our_program.
Both Elk Grove Township Hall and Elk Grove Township Community Day Care Center
reported an abundance of donations over the holidays which also helped
numerous Village families.
In addition to all of our Christmas activity, information and referral requests
in the month of December totaled 125, the second busiest. month in 1982.
Eight of these calls involved emergency requests for Salvation Army funds.
The Community Service Budget for fiscal year 83/84 was submitted to the
Finance Department on January 10, 1983. Further reviews by the Village Manager,
the Budget Committee of the Board of Trustees and then by the entire Village
Board will be taking place between January and April prior to final approval.
Rich Chier.ico, of Elk Grove High School, has contacted me regarding the
placement of one of his students in -Community Service for a Public Service
Practicum. I will know if a student wishes to be placed here by the end of
January.
Work is underway for the handbook on senior services in the Village.
