Dr. Kelly Dr. Labinsky Staff Present Nancy Yiannias Minutes of the April 1, 1986, meeting were approved. I Old Business A. Community Impact Study of Seniors The Board discussed how to approach the impact study. Their final decision was to ask Mr. Ted Kauf from the University of 'Arizona in Tucson to a meeting with representatives of governmental agencies (Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, Roselle plus Elk Grove and Schaumburg Townships) . Discussion at this meeting. would revolve around the purpose of the study and what would be needed financially to complete such a study. Hopefully the agencies would agree to make a financial committment to the study. Other agencies would be included in the Task Force group at a later time (Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove/Schaumburg 'Mental Health Center, Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg Park Districts and the Area Agency on Aging). A letter will be sent out to the governmental agencies initially from Pat McHale, to invite them to the first meeting. B. Congregate Senior Housing Proposed Licensing Ordinance The Plan Commission's final draft has been forwarded to administration, the attorney and staff for comments, before it is forwarded to JPZ and other Board Members for their final review. I The Board of Health would like to know administration, legal and staff responses to the document so they can have the information before the JPZ meeting. The Board of Health would like representation at the JPZ meeting discussing . this ordinance. Hopefully these materials will be passed on to the Board of Health. C. -Low Cost Health Care Update Pat McHale and Pat Bourke met with three state representatives along with Alexian Brothers Medical Center's Brother Philip and Evan Polansky, Schaumburg Township's Senior Director and i i • I Board of Health 1 '\utes - page 2 ` May 6,. 1986 a representative from Crusade of Mercy to discuss concerns for low cost primary health care in the Northwest Suburbs. Several groups needing such health care are: young single parents, 55 to 65 year group that are unemployed or underemployed and seniors having inadequate supplemental . health insurance policies. All of these groups have trouble accessing adequate primary health care. It is also difficult for green card holders to find physicians that will accept the card. The group would like some money to collect data to prove there is a need in the Northwest Suburban area. If this group is large enough, a low cost primary medical care program might be feasible. The group that met have been asked to go to Springfield on May 27th to discuss this.problem with governmental officials and legislations. D'. Proposed Tanning Booth Ordinance Dr. Labinsky asked about the Tanning Booth Ordinance. The Board of Health feels strongly that the Booths should be regulated locally, because of the potential danger to the public. . The ordinance will- be resubmitted .to the Village Manager with additional data showing the danger the booth can be to the public's health and why they should be regulated. II Routine Reports A. Coordinator's Report The next immunization clinic will be held on Thursday, May 15th at ABMC from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. - The Health Department has received several letters of praise from the public regarding Health Department services. - Prelicensure Day Care Center inspections have been done. No gross problems have been found. Licensing inspections will be donein late May and June.
