HomeMy WebLinkAboutBOARD OF HEALTH - 10/02/1984 - BOARD OF HEALTH Minutes Village of Elk Grove Board of Health October 2, 1984 The regular—meeting of the Elk Grove Village Board of Health was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Pat McHale, Chairman. Guest Dave Dopp The minutes of the .September 4, 1984 meeting were approved. I Old Business A. Update of Health Impaired Elderly Search - Newsletter. Senior Packet The Senior Health Packets have been distributed to Grantwood and the Grove Senior Complex. The article for the senior search appeared in the Village Newsletter. Only one call was received; the man was asking for more frequent chore-housekeeping time. Pat McHale said he could appeal his request. B. "Old School House" Update A letter has been sent to Mr. Fulk .advising him that the attorney has been directed to petition the court for a demolition order. All expenses will be paid by Cook County and a lien placed on the property. C: Alternative Education Program There are a number of programs currently ongoing in the Northwest Suburbs which are on teenage substance abuse. Pat McHale felt a task force should be appointed to disclose the current programs so gaps could be identified. After the gaps are found, the task force could plan a viable program. The "Parents' Guide to Teenage Parties" has been given to the Youth Division of the Elk Grove Village Police Department for review. They will bring it in line with local ordinances. When completed, the flier will be presented to the Board of Health for approval. It will then be given to Service Organizations for printing sponsorships. Hofefully, the High Schools will distribute them through one of their parent mailings. . D. 1353 Cumberland Circle East The health hazard has been eliminated by the cleanup. The next step is renovation. The cleanup contractor will be in charge of the renovation. He will be applying for a contractor's license from the Village. E. Commercial Building Maintenance Code - Tabled F. Living Will and Organ Donation Educational Program Shirley Garrison and Nancy Yiann;as discussed the possibility of-having a presentation on- these subjects and felt it would not have a draw. Instead, a brochure on the subjects will be designed and appropriate distribution will be made. II Routine Reports A. Coordinator's Report- Day Care Ordinance = Pat McHale has experienced many deficiences in the inspections of Day Care facilities by the Department of Children and Family Services. She feels the local communities should check them more thoroughly. The State has a new Day Care Ordinance. Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village Health Departments will review this ordinance and make relevant changes. When complete the ordinance will be presented to the Board of Health for approval. Jane Thomas of Harper could serve on the ordinance review committee. The Chippery off Nerge is also scheduled to open this month. Bogies has been demolished and LaQuinta and Bob Evans will be built on the site (NE corner of Oakton 8 Busse). The Sixpence Motel is being built on the SW corner of Oakton and Busse. Day Bridge Nursery School is scheduled for opening soon. The Board of Health expressed concern over the possibility of factories in the Industrial Park which could be dangerous to the health of their employees. There could be many situations similar to Chicago Magnet Wire. Their confidence in OSHA is not very great, particularly in view of their performance at Chicago Magnet Wire. Some members felt that the Village should have some responsibility to the workers in the Indus- trial Park. No decision was reached.
