HomeMy WebLinkAboutBOARD OF HEALTH - 09/20/1978 - BOARD OF HEALTH VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE Board of Health September 20; 1978 The regular meeting of the Elk Grove Village Board of Health was called to order at 8:15 p.m. in the Staff Conference Room of the Village Hall. Present: Absent: Pat McHale, Chairman Alan Antonik Pat Bourke Dr. Harold Labinsky Ray Dean Ray DePalma Staff Present: Dr. John Kelly Mike Cavallini Sue Stidger Nancy Yiannias I. OLD BUSINESS A. Speakers - The scheduled speakers from the Elk Grove Water Department and the Illinois E.P.A. were unable to attend this meeting. They will be rescheduled for the September 15th meeting. B. Village Rodent 'Report - The Rodent Report from Robert Berns of. Aerex was presented to then Board. They would like him to expand the conclusion of the report to include specific recommendations for killing weed growth in the drainage ditches in the Industrial Park along with frequency of weed killers to be used or other means to prevent rodent infestation. This will then be presented to the Board of Trustees and the Association of Commerce so a solution may be sought to the problem of water drainage in the Industrial Park. C. Proposed Retail Sanitation Ordinance - A memo has been sent to J.P.Z. asking for an audience with the Board of Health and the Health Department so they may explain the proposed ordinance and reasons why it is needed. We are waiting for a reply from J.P.Z. II. ROUTINE REPORTS I A. Coordinator's Report I 1.a.The health educational series in cooperation with Alexian Brothers Medical Center is underway for the year. The September presentation will be on Kidney Disease, a repeat of last Spring. October's program will be on "Facts and Fallacies about Skin Disease" presented by Dr. Michael Greenberg. Dates are October 3rd and October 4th. b.The Family Asthma Program has been finalized, but because we do not have enough participants, it may have to be postponed to a later date. j • I - 2 - 2. Hemoccult Screening for Senior Citizens will begin' October 19th at a cost of $1.00 for seniors. The Health Department will handle all distribution and follow-up mailing of the program. 3. The Coordinator thinks the Board of Health and Health Department should hold a meeting with the Board of Trustees to explain: the Rodent Report; Food Inspection Reports and 'other major program - areas. This will be planned within the near future. 4. The August Immunization Clinic had 183 children participate. Total cost of the Clinic was $227.00 with an average cost per shot of 66C or $1.24 per child. This program will be repeated in May, 1979 and again in August, 1979. B. Sanitarian's Report Inspections made between July 18 and September 15: Food Establishments 45 Food Processors 13 Vending Machines 4 companies & misc. Food 175 Cigarettes 17 Service Stations 7 Retail Stores 2 Microwave Ovens 8 Pool Inspections 7 (one was closed and re-opened upon compliance) Misc. complaints 25 Housing Maintenance Complaints 4 Carroll Square building owners have been warned about the litter and improper storage of garbage in their parking area. They will be issued citations if they do not clean the area. Hopefully this action will encourage the owners to take better care of their property. Several new food establishments will be opening in the next few months, increasing the inspection load on the Sanitarian. The Village Manager's office has warned the owners of the Elk Grove Cinema of their non-compliance with Health and Fire Codes and has given them a time limit to correct these violations. Upon inspection of the theatre on September 20, 1978, it appears that they are making an effort to comply. A final inspection will be made on September 25, 1978 and if they comply, their license will be issued. C. Plan Committee Report The Plan Committee will meet on November 1st to work on the 1979-80 plan. - 3 = D. Finance Committee Report - no report E. Ways and Means Committee Report - no report III. NEW BUSINESS A. ' Hay Study Report - The Board of Health will be responsible for the evaluation of the Health Coordinator. The Coordinator will prepare Primary Position Goals and outcomes for perfor- mance measurement. They will be presented at the next Board of Health meeting. B. The October meeting will be cancelled.
