BOARD OF HEALTH
April 11 , 1973
Members Present:. Mrs. Trudy Brock, Secretary; Mr. Alan Antonik, Mrs.
Donna Farley, Dr. Harold Labinsky.
Others Present: Mrs. Barbara Watson, Sanitarian.
Mrs. Watson reported that there is an increasing number of
lidless garbage cans in the Village. .This is against the Municipal
Code (16.202) . Other villages ticket such an offense. Could we do
the same?
First, people should be warned. Mrs . Brock moved that:
1 . Warnings go .out in the paper and on the water -bill
2. Tickets be issued one month after warning if Trustees
approve.
Mr. Antonik seconded. Vote - unanimous.
Old Business :
1 . The letter to homeowners about mosquito abatement: Mr.
Antonik reported that the Independent Postal System
delivers to over 5,000 homes (no apartments) at 3C
apiece, which would come to over $165.00. Mrs. Farley
reported that the Park District has a letter going
out in May and the School District has one at the end
of April .
2. The letter to the Board of Trustees about mosquito control :
Mrs : Farley read a statement of policy which the Board
of Health will send .to the Trustees.
Mr. Antonik asked if there is any product available which
private citizens can use in standing water on their property. He called
Mr. Mitchell of the Northwest Mosquito Abatement District:
1 . Check for wrigglers.
2. Don' t bother. if puddle will dry up in 3 or 4 days .
3• Use any vegetable oi ! or 3-in-1 . Add a little at a time
until puddle has a rainbow effect.
4. Check in 15 or 20 minutes to see if wrigglers are biting
their tails (a circle) . If not, add more.
Dr. Labinsky moved that the Board approve mosquito policy
statement as written by Mrs . Farley. Mr. Antonik seconded. Vote -
unanimous.
Mrs. Watson reported illegal land fill at Nerge Road and
Grissom Trail . She has asked that the Police check every evening to
be sure that the fill is properly covered. She has also requested
that Winston-Centex get a permit from the Environmental Protection
Agency.
Mrs. Watson also said we now have migrating rats in the
Village (as we do every spring and fall ) . It is particular.ly important
that at .this time of year citizens do not provide harborage or food
for migrating rats. Mrs. Watson and Mr. Schultz (County) are going
out after the meeting this morning to check- the creek for rat- holes.
If there are many, they should be baited.
