BOARD OF HEALTH
March 14, 1973
Members Present: Brother Ferdinand Leyva, CFA, Chairman;' Mr. Alan
Antonik, Mrs. Donna Farley, Dr. John Kozak; Mrs .
Trudy Brock, Secretary.
(Mrs. Watson is on vacation.)
1 . Brother Ferdinand showed a letter from Mr. Zettek in answer to his
letter requesting funds to begin implementing the Comprehensive
Health Plan. The letter indicates that we may expect something,
but the Budget Committee has to make the final decision.
2. Mr. Antonik suggested that there is not enough communication between
the Board of Health and other groups. The hiring of a coordinator
would make communication between various Village bodies much easier.
If, for example, the Village is planning to do its own mosquito
controlling in cooperation with the Northwest Mosquito Abatement
District, perhaps the official recommendation should come from the
Board of Health.
Mrs. Farley said she usually is opposed to spraying, but this
is going to be an unusually bad year. She much prefers oiling and
drainage.
Mrs. Farley moved that we send out another letter. to home
owners on mosquito prevent-ion. Mr. Antonik seconded.
Mrs. Farley moved that the -Board of Health adopt a strong
statement favoring preventive measures (oiling and draining) over
spraying. Mr. Antonik seconded. j
Other means of communicating with home owners : Independent
Postal Service, grocery bags , posters in shopping centers , Community j
Service Newsletter, back of water bill , through the School District.
Mrs . Watson, who is out of town, left a detailed report of her
activities in the past month and a report on water sampling. j
Dr.. Kozak suggested that we might get a more qualified coordinator
if we hired on a part-time basis. At present, we cannot afford a full
time person of the caliber we would like.-
