Home My WebLink AboutINFORMATION COMMITTEE - 10/16/2017 - Information Committee Meeting ELK GROVE VILLAGE INFORMATION COMMITTEE MEETING 10/16/2017 9:30 a.m. Information Members Present: Sam Lissner,Village Trustee,Chairman Patton Feichter,Village Trustee Christine Prochno,Village Trustee Staff: Maggie Jablonski,Assistant Manager Ed Scheid,Administrative Intern PUBLIC OUTREACH The Committee discussed the Northwest Central Dispatch System emergency notification system and how the Village can better inform residents about the opt-in service.Staff explained that the system already has landlines as part of its reverse 9-1-1 database, but that cellphones must be registered by residents. The Village currently promotes this service in the Village newsletter,on the electronic sign and on the website. Additionally, information is included in the welcome packet sent to new residents. Staff is looking into the possible use of a sign-up booth for emergency notifications at upcoming events. The Committee discussed the My Elk Grove Village app and Service Request System.The app has additional features for residents, but many may find it more convenient to use the form on the website. This system is also promoted in the Village newsletter,on the electronic sign,on Facebook and on the website, as well as in new resident welcome packets. The Committee discussed how to better reach residents who do not use the internet and suggested putting newsletters out at the Library,Senior Center and Park District Pavilion,as sometimes delivery of newsletters to condos do not get distributed properly. The Committee discussed the Village Facebook page,and topics seem to be discussed only in private Facebook groups. The Village Facebook Page does not allow residents to post,but only to comment on Village posts. Staff explained that the Facebook Page has a comment policy to prevent residents from hijacking posts with comments on an unrelated issue, but that it is rarely enforced.
