Call to Order
Chairman Jim Christie called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM.
Action Items: Approval of the Minutes
There was a motion to approve the minutes of the October 21, 2009 meeting, with three corrections. Jim
Christie was not absent from the October meeting, Trustee Czarnik noted that the Frank Czarnik Scholarship
fund will be providing two $1,000 scholarships in 2009 and a possible third in 2010, and Anne Feichter has an
"e" in Anne. The minutes were unanimously approved.
Community Service Coordinator Report
Holiday Adopt-A- Family-
Thanksgiving: Distribution of the Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family meals will be on November 19th, at the Elk
Grove Village Food Pantry. Turkeys, stuffing, potatoes, and dessert will be provided along with their normal
food allotment. Families will also be provided with small grocery gift cards ($20 denominations) thanks to the
generosity of the Fire Department and Fire Fighter's Union ($1,300.00).
Christmas: The Christmas Holiday Adopt-A-Family will be servicing 17 families this year. Additional families will
be provided with a generous financial gift from Michael Caley of Midaco. Mr. Caley has historically sponsored
the "Happy Memories Event" at Christmas, but this year due the business downturn he was unable to host this
event, yet still wanted to help by providing gift cards for Village families for Christmas.
Interfaith Council Food Drive-The Interfaith Food Drive was successful. The shelves at the food pantry are full.
The Coordinator stated that the community was very generous in their giving this year.
Leo's- A new high school youth service group has been organized. Called the "Leos", they are affiliated with
the Lion's Club. Presently they are sponsoring a pet food drive in the community. All the pet food collected will
go to the local food pantries. The library is one collection point in the Village.
Employee Christmas Lunch- Linda Blair& Marty Vela received approval to sponsor the first annual Elk Grove

Anti-Smoking Campaign
Smoking Cessation- No new smoking cessation sessions have been scheduled at this time.
Great American Smoke Out-The Positive Youth Development Program (PYDP) a program of the Kenneth
Young Center will have informational table at the high school and library for The Great American Smoke Out
to be held on November 191H
Summer Concert Series-The summer concert series sponsored by Smoke Free Elk Grove will take place again
next July.
Department Director's Report
Flu Vaccine Update- The Department has completed the two scheduled flu clinics for the 2009-2010 season.
The Department also provided additional residents (homebound/senior residency occupants) with flu vaccine.
In addition Village employees were provided with flu shots.
The following is a breakdown total of flu shots administered:
• Non-union employees- 57
• Police Department- 73
• Fire Department- 55
• Public works- 19
• Residents- 441 (including 195 from 11/2/09 and 143 from 11/12/09 clinics)
Total flu shots administered 645.
The IDPH has informed the Department that the children's flu vaccine will be available in December. The
Department will not schedule or publicize a children's flu clinic until vaccine is physically in the Department.
The Novel H1N1 (Swine) flu- H1N1 vaccine has started to trickle into the area. Cook county Department of
Health has begun to administer novel H1N1 vaccine. Residents must contact the Cook County to schedule an
appointment at one of their clinic sites. You must be in one of the high priority/target groups to get a flu shot.
Target groups include, pregnant women, school-aged children K-12 and school staff, children under 6 months
of age and their parents and/or care givers, persons with chronic medical conditions, health care workers, and
emergency services personnel.
The County is still scheduled to provide elementary school-aged children and school staff over the next few
months.
West Nile Virus (WNV) - The State of Illinois reported only five cases (no deaths) of WNV in 2009. The Director
provided a list of cases and deaths from WNV in Illinois from 2001-2009. WNV cases are down across the
entire country in 2009.
idling Education Program- The "No Idling" design contest will not start until January 2010. The contest will be
open to the graphic design students at Elk Grove High School. Winning entries will be used on street signs in
no idling zones throughout the Village.
Blood Drive- At the November 7, 2009 Community Blood Drive 35 people donated blood, 4 were deferred.
The Director thanked Rocco Vino's Italian Eatery for providing coupons for a free slice of pizza and drink to all
blood donors.
Dealing with Wildlife-At the request of the Manager's Office the Director updated the Department
information on urban wildlife. There has been several calls/E-mails from residents regarding the sighting of
wild animals. The information will be provided in the upcoming winter newsletter. The information was
provided in the Director's Report.
Department Events &Activities-The Director provided a list of upcoming and ongoing Department events
and activities.

Fall Intern- The fall intern will be with the Department until December 4th. At the present time he is
conducting a survey and inspection of foreclosed properties in the Village before winter hits. Board member
Mary Paliganoff asked how many foreclosed properties were in the Village. The Director reported the
Department is presently monitoring about 50 foreclosed properties.

Trustee Liaison Report
104 golfers participated in the Frank Czarnik Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Outing on October 4th. This will
provide additional funding for student scholarships.
The tree lighting ceremony will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009 (day after Thanksgiving).
The summer concert series (the four Tuesdays in July) will be back for 2010.
Old Business-The Director could provide no updates on when Chipotle or Pot Belly Sandwiches will open.
New Business- Lois Colaprete made a motion to cancel the December Board of Health & Community Services
meeting. It was seconded by Jim Morrill. The motion passed unanimously.
Dick Scholten motioned to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Mary Paliganoff. The meeting was
adjourned at 7:39 PM.
