MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, January 21 , 1988

Call to Order :
The meeting was called to order at 8 : 10 p.m. by Mary Paliganoff .
Dick Penley moved to approve the minutes from the November
meeting . Marge Mahoney seconded. Minutes were approved.
Coordinator ' s Report: Given by Nancy Eike
The Compendium report was reviewed.
Mario Giacomuzzi was hired as an intern and started on January
13th. He is a student at Northern Illinois University majoring*
in Family and Social Service. He is presently working on
n a resource book which identifies emergency placement centers ,
detox centers , etc . , and their requirements , and also will
be doing work on Youth Employment Service.
The Advisory Council for the Kenneth W. Young Center met
last week. A presentation was offered by the Northwest
Alliance for the Mentally Ill . Members of this group all
have a family member who has a mental defiency. They are
hoping to start a residential center for the mentally ill .
The Mental Health Center itself has 33 active clients in
the day treatment center .
Last year referrals increased 42% but now they are stabilizing.
49% are being referred out to other facilities, 51% are
seen by the Kenneth W. Young Center . The Senior ' s program
is moving to the Northwest Corporate Center on Higgins and
Barrington Road on February 29th. K.W. Young is also working
on a jointly sponsored workshop on Sexual Abuse with Alexian
Brothers Medical Center.
I was elected as chairperson for the KWY Center for Senior
Services Advisory Council.
Community Service brochures will be available in a couple
of weeks . I am in the process of revising the Senior Citizen
handbook .
I organized a raffle for United Way' of Elk Grove that was

held on Friday, January 15th at the High School Pack-the-
Place basketball game . We raffled off an autographed Chicago
Bulls basketball . About $250 was raised.
All thank you' s have gone out to donators at Christmas and
for volunteers for the Salvation Army fund drive.
Community Service has a storage room for supplies located
in the Coordinator ' s old office. We are also still in the
process of getting more office equipment including 4 more
conference chairs , a bookcase, a brochure rack, office blinds ,
and a center drawer for Marty' s work station.
Coordination of Service: Given by Nancy Eike
Dr . Patrick Pozzi from ABMC spoke on the Feminine Mystique
and PMS in December.
January had almost 20 people. Meetings are now being held
at Village Hall . The topic was Resources and Counseling
for Pregnant Teens . Next month will be on Child Custody
Issues .
Elk Grove Distance Classic: Given by Nancy Eike
The first meeting is scheduled for February 3 , 1988 at 1 : 30
at the Community Service conference room.

Budget Committee: Given by Nancy Eike
Nancy distributed copies of the budget and reviewed it with
the Board . Nancy highlighted special requests . Nancy invited
us all to attend the Budget meeting on February 22 at 7 : 00
p.m. Randy moved and Bro. Kennedy seconded the budget.
The Committee approved.
Intergenerational Ad Hoc Committee: Given by Dick Penley
Dick reported that he has youth for painting a house and
is ready to go ahead, must be a needy senior.
Youth Employment Service: Given by Nancy Eike
Nancy passed around samples of the Y.E. S . stationery. The
Board had been polled for approval of expenditure from the
Elk Grove Distance Classic funds , not to exceed $300 . It
was unanimous to purchase the stationery. Services will
now be offered to all of Elk Grove Township. Orientation
programs will be held at Youth Services of Elk Grove Township.
New Business :
Nomination of Board Officers : We ' ll vote at the February
meeting . Ray indicated an interest in staying on the board
and turning the chairmanship over to another member . Marge
nominated Harriet Dalaskey as Chairman, Barbara Rettberg
as Vice-Chairman and Bro. Philip Kennedy as Secretary.

Discussion ensued about board membership recommendations
and qualifications . The Board talked about the importance
of attending all- meetings . We will vote at the February
meeting . If Barbara Rettberg is not interested, Mary Paliganoff
will continue as Vice_Chairman.
Volunteer Recognition Program was discussed. Recommendations
must be in by February 29th. A committee must be formed
to select the people to be honored.
Announcements :
Next regular Community Service Board meeting will be Thursday,
February 18 , 1988 in the Community Service conference room.
Marge moved to adjourn the meeting at 9 : 02 p.m. Bro. Kennedy
seconded. Motion carried.
