MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, November 19 , 1987

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 8 : 03 p.m. Dick Penley
motioned to approve the minutes from September and October' s
Board meetings . Marge Mahoney seconded: Motion carried.
Coordinator ' s Report: Given by Nancy Eike
Nancy talked with Sheila Ray: of Grant Wood about a low cost
lunch program to feed 40 people daily. The previous low
cost lunch program at Grant Wood was unsuccessful due to
poor quality food and low people turn out. Grant Wood was
not eager to start up another low cost lunch. Lunches would
cost $1 . 00 per meal instead of $2 . 50 what is offered now
through Grant Wood. Sheila Ray will talk to Grant Wood
Board members and then contact Nancy.
The Board had a consensus that Nancy participate on the
Volunteer Center Board. The Board meetings are at 7 : 30
a.m.
Coordination of Service: Given by Barbara Pohn
Coordination of Service meeting of November 18th was held
at Channel Six Studios . The panelists were: Hugh Epping,
Executive Director of Open Door Clinic, Elgin. Dr. Paul
Gallagher, Executive Director of Comprehensive Health Council
of Metro Chicago. Dr. James W. Sharp, Pathologist at Northwest
Community Hospital .
The program was well received and there was much conversation.
The program was for 60 minutes and will be on cable TV in
the next few weeks . The program' s- name is AIDS: Prevention
and Education.
Thanksgiving Basket/Christmas Donations :
More food is needed for this year. Several Board members
will try to obtain more turkeys . Dick Penley suggested
a food drive through the Student Body/Council . Ten more
baskets are sought for Thanksgiving.
Elk Grove Distance Classic: Given by Barbara Pohn
Barbara Pohn motioned that the Board approve the list of

recipients for the Elk Grove Distance Classic funds as listed
in the recommendations . Dick Penley seconded it. Motion
carried.
There was discussion about also adding a walk for the race.
The date was decided to be on the same day, Sunday after
Labor Day. The cost of the registration fee was discussed.
The general feeling was not to raise registration fees .
Intergenerational Ad Hoc Committee: Given by Dick Penley
Kiwanis Peanut Day - Seniors and teens got together to work
on Kiwanis Peanut Day.
Youth Employment Service: Given by Nancy Eike
Proposal is attached. The Board supports the proposal.
Nancy will meet with Mr . Willis on Monday, November 23rd.
Access for seniors to Jewel, Dial-a-Bus will take .them over.
This is okay for seniors who are more mobile but sometimes
the bus steps can be difficult. The seniors need to cross
at lights .
December Board Meeting.:
No Board meeting for December 17th. Instead, a Christmas
party will be planned at the Village Grove Club House at
7 p.m.
The Board went into Executive Session at 9 : 22 p.m.
The Board reconvened at 9 : 31 p.m.
Barbara Rettberg motioned to adjourn at 9 : 33 p.m. Ruth
Guest seconded. Meeting adjourned.
