Discussion ensued on the purchasing of Community Service brochures, senior
citizen handbooks and Y.E.S. .bookmarks. Money is budgeted for Community
Service brochures so 2000 will be ordered from Kukla Press. The cost for- ,
' the senior citizen handbooks is $482.00 for 500. Questions were raised
as to whether these books would be covered under the flood. Mary suggested
that Nancy look into it and also revise the booklet. Dick said that if
funds were not available with this years budget that it should be put in
next years.
Nancy met with Pat McHale and Gary Kenzer from the Community Nutrition
Network regarding a hot meal program for seniors in Elk Grove Village.-
.This was done at Grant Wood two years ago and served 50 or more people
but had minor problems. Now the bugs have been worked out and the program
is under the direction of CEDA. We are working on locatinga site for
this program other than Grant Wood, and will also be asking the township
for help with transportation.
FISH, is having an open house at the Village Hall Court Room on October
20th at 7 p.m. The meeting is being held to discuss the future of FISH.
If an interest is not shown, and additional volunteers are not recruited
the group will have to disband. Comments were that many of the women
who used to volunteer are now working, is there a need for this program,
would the responsibility for addressing emergency services of this nature
then be put on Community Service, etc. Any input on this would be
appreciated.
The Volunteer Center, formally the Volunteer Service 'Bureau has asked
if I would be on their Board. The Volunteer Center matches volunteer
skills with community needs. Nancy is meeting with the Director to
discuss what the time commitment and responsibilities would be. Dick

suggested that I write up a chart showing where my time is spent to determine
if I would be over extending myself. I will have that ready for the next
meeting.
The Food Distribution Project is going well at Forest View High School. I
am processing applications for .Elk Grove residents and that is working well.
I also help out on distribution day.
Community Service received 144 calls in September and 146 requests. 77

around $3,500. Requests for funds from the EGDC are st-ill coming in.
Marge• suggested the possibility: of setting up a scholarship or- trip fund
for kids who cannot afford .to go on Park District trips. If their are
funds left Dick said we might .have- Carl VanGundy -from the Park District
manage the trip- fund. More will be decided next time.
In regards to the future of the race this will be brought up at the next
