Philip Kennedy Nancy Eike Marge Mahoney Randy Melind Mary Paliganoff Dick Penley Barbara Pohn Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 8 : 05 p.m. by Ray Gunn. Dick Penley moved to approve the minutes from the May and June 18 , 1987 meetings. Ruth Guest seconded. Minutes were approved. Coordinator ' s Report: Given by Nancy Eike The Cubs Benefit raised over $1, 600 . 00 . Smiles for Little City canning will be August 14 and 15. Nancy will serve on the United Way committee to review the services of Northwest Community Service because they've been disaffiliated. They are duplicating efforts and should be doing other functions . Most of their calls are for emergency shelter and that should continue. Some of their senior services are duplications . They have a $30 , 000 grant which was not filed on time. Nancy attended 2 days of seminars at Northwestern and reported on it very favorably. Coordination of Service: No report. Elk Grove Distance Classic: Given by Barbara Pohn T-shirts, trophies and name tags are ordered. Registration will be in the new court room. Everything is moving along except the food. The hospital has requested donations from their vendors and have received no positive responses . Volunteers are needed. Intergenerational Ad Hoc Committee : No report. Paint Distribution Program: No report. CSB Minutes Page two Youth Employment Service : Given by Nancy Eike Nancy talked with Mike deZonna about doing an orientation 6 times a year to teach key aspects to help the youth- learn responsibility. Community Service would still do matching of job request to student because of the accessibility to the computer. Nancy and Mike want to expand the program to 13-20 year olds . Dick said that some companies call the High School directly and jobs are posted. Nancy will call for information on this. Discussion ensued. The Board agreed that Nancy continue with the concept and get the approval of Mr. Willis. Nancy will put together a proposal for the next meeting. Government Surplus Food Distribution: Given by Nancy Eike Nancy is very pleased at the decision to move the Distribution Center. The program will start August 12 at Forest View. Nancy will consult Mr. Willis to see if she can handle applications for CEDA and handling that locally to save them the trip to CEDA Northwest. No more information is available on Civil Defense so we will table any action. New Business : Bro. Kennedy told us about a major grant that is available for indigent health care. It was originally intended for Northwest Suburbs but the county got involved and it now includes the south suburbs, but not the city. Nancy said that NSCCS is addressing this at their September lunchtime meeting and will have a panel discussion. We can attend the panel or have a representative attend our September meeting. Nancy will contact Pat McHale to come to the September meeting and start the meeting at 7 : 30 p.m. to accommodate the discussion. HASP is having a fundraiser at the Marriott on September 10 . It ' s a raffle and dinner. More information will follow. ABMC will have a Polkathon at Itasca Country Club in September. Ray will write a letter to. Mr. Zettek regarding expansion of the board, and expressing the desire to improve communications between Community Service Board and Mr. Zettek and the Village Board. Announcements : Next regular Community Service Board meeting will be Thursday, August 20th in meeting room "C" . Barbara Pohn moved to adjourn the meeting at 8 :58 p.m. Marge seconded.
