HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 06/18/1987 - MEETING MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, June 18 , 1987 Elk Grove Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent : Harriet Dalaskey Dennis Gallitano Jane Goldsmith Ruth Guest Marge Mahoney Ray Gunn Mary Paliganoff Bro. Kennedy Barbara Pohn Randy Melind Barbara Rettberg Dick Penley Staff : Nancy L. Eike Call to Order : The meeting was called to order at 8 :03 p.m. by Mary Paliganoff . Approval of the minutes was tabled because we didn' t have" a quorum. Jane Goldsmith, our newest commissioner was introduced. Coordinator' s Report : Given by Nancy Eike Cubs Benefit is June 19th. 210 tickets were sold. Nancy reported on a November conference for girls to be held at Harper. Topics will be career choices, decision making, etc. Nancy has recruited some speakers. A voucher system has been established with American Taxi Service so that the Village can be billed for emergency transportation services when deemed necessary. (Monies to cover this come from the Salvation Army) . This was established in response to a police department request. Nancy is working with Alexian Brothers to set up a voucher system for lodging when necessary. This would be used only when an individual enters the Alexian Brothers Medical Center system and is determined to not need further care but is in need of emergency one night lodging. Y.E.S. has been very busy. Business calls have increased. Coordination of Service: Given by Barbara Pohn Will not meet in June, July and August because of lack of attendance. A questionnaire has gone out to plan 1987-88 term. Elk Grove Distance Classic: Given by Barbara Pohn Jack Pahl has agreed to M.C. President Zettek will start the race . An Evanston race will be on the same day as will the Muscular Sclorosis Walk-Bike-a-Thon. We still need a source of food for the Classic. CSB Minutes Page two . Intergenerational Ad Hoc Committee : No report. Paint Distribution Program: No report. Youth Employment Service: Given by Nancy Eike Nancy reported that the Village does not want us to do the, orientation and screening. We want to expand Y. E.S. for 16-17-18 year olds . Businesses have asked for help in clerical, deliveries , warehouse, etc. and residentially for a lot of lawn care. Nancy will continue to work on the proposal and is meeting with Mike deZonna from Youth Services regarding a cooperative pre-employment orientation. Government Surplus Food Distribution : Nancy' s proposal was distributed. We will all read the proposal and we will discuss it at the next meeting. A minimal of 7 volunteers are needed for the administration of the program. Distribution would involve 1 day a month. CEDA ,may be distributing food out of _ Forest View High School so we hope to hear about this in the next month. Then Community Service would not implement a program. New Business : Civil Defense : Given by Nancy Eike We ' re looking at renewing our contract to handle sites and surplus in the event of needs . Chief Henrici has said previously that it is all handled. Nancy will get a direct request from Bill James as to what Community Service is specifically responsible for. Announcements : Next regular Community Service Board meeting will be Thursday, July 16, 1987 . President Zettek said that we could enlarge the board to get an un-even number. t The Village Picnic is Sunday, August 9 . I Barbara Pohn moved to adjourn the meeting at 9 : 01 p.m. Marge seconded.
