MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, April 9, 1987

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 8 :05 p:m. Barbara Rettberg
moved to approve the minutes from the March 19, 1987 meeting.
Barbara Pohn seconded. Minutes were approved.
Coordinator ' s Report : Given by Nancy Eike
Nancy was nominated for publicity chairman for Northwest
Suburban Community Services, a network group of agencies.
Nancy reported that Mr . Willis does not think we should
be training Y.E. S. students. He feels we . should just administer
the program and that it should be referral only. Discussion
ensued.
Nancy reported on the food program and Richard M. Hall ' s
declining our proposal . Discussion ensued and was tabled
for discussion at another meeting when more members would
be present. Nancy will get more background on the Township' s
refusal .
The Voice will do a story on our Volunteer. Awards program
and recipients.
Health and Wellness Day at Elk Grove High School was successful.
Coordination of Service :
Keith Lewis spoke on "Adventures in Attitudes" and "Winning" .
The next meeting was postponed for 1 week. Topic "Children
of Divorce" and "Custody" . April 22 , 1987 at Elk Grove
Village Public Library.
Elk Grove Distance Classic:
The Distance Classic Committee met. The Hospital hasn' t
made a decision regarding what they will be able to contribute
in the area of supplies, for example souvenir pins . We
may need to gain additional support. We received $1000
from the hospital and $800 from the bank. Barbara Pohn
motioned that we give $200 from the Community Service special
projects fund to the Elk Grove Distance Classic for supplies

and/or prizes . Barbara Rettberg seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Board Member Recommendations : Reported by Ray Gunn
Ray reported that the hadn ' t heard from any potential candidates
at this time. Discussion ensued abut the potential candidates.
Ray suggested that we wait a few more months and see what
happens.
Paint Distribution Program: Reported by Nancy Eike
Letters went out to Service Clubs telling about the needs
of the families . It ' s to early to report on feedback.
New Business : Reported by Ray Gunn
Elk Grove Township is looking for people to serve on committies
and boards of the Elk Grove Township Community Day Care
Center. It will be discussed again in May.
Optimist Club contacted Ray to start a club in Elk Grove .
Programs are -directed at youth in the community. They
meet twice a month. Ray suggested that a representative
make a short presentation at the next meeting. The members
present approved Ray' s suggestion. We ' ll invite a member
to our next meeting.
Kenneth W. Young Center : Reported by Barbara Pohn
Barbara Pohn reported on the name change of the Elk Grove
Schaumburg Townships Mental Health Center. Kenneth W.
Young was a member of the Board and instrumental in getting
the building constructed. A new addition is planned over
the next 3 years . Referrals are up 22% from last year.
Barbara reported on fees, etc. An incentive program was
started for therapists . They want to start a coffee house
for the chronically mentally ill people. Barbara reported
that they have improved services over the past several
years . No waiting list. A sign will be put up and dedicated
on May 4 .
The Volunteer Service Bureau changed their name to the
Volunteer Center. They are accepting nominations for their
volunteer Recognition Banquet. Nancy suggested we nominate
Ruth Guest and pay for her and a guest to attend the dinner
on May 14 . Mary motioned that we nominate Ruth Guest to
be Volunteer of the Year and that we allocate $40 . 00 out
of the special project account. Barbara Pohn seconded.
Motion carried.
Announcements :
Next regular Community Service Board meeting will be Thursday,
May ' 21, 1987 .
Barbara Pohn moved to adjourn the meeting at 9 : 03 p.m.
Barbara Rettberg seconded. Motion carried.
