Elk Grove Village Community Service received the Golden
Kettle Award for the second year in a row. Salvation
Army wants to present the award for this at the Community
Service Board meeting in March.
Paint Project - Dick Penley suggested that the Intergenerational
Project might be a possibility to get private companies
to donate paint, etc. He will contact companies in this
regard . Board members discussed various ways to get supplies
for the Paint Project. One was for Nancy to contact service
clubs for donations .
Agency of the Month - Cook County Sheriff ' s Youth Department.
Coordination of Service: Given by Barbara Pohn
.Suzan Moe Ross spoke on Co-Dependency and was very well.
received . Almost 30 people attended.
Budget Committee :
Nancy said the budget will be presented to the Board on
Monday, February 23rd. Nancy feels the quality of Youth
Employment Service needs to be improved. Can be more
responsible for the referrals made by interviewing kids.
There have been numerous complaints about Y.E.S. kids
on the part of prospective employers . The Community Service
Board is supportive of Nancy interviewing prospective
Y.E. S. kids . However, Village management says that would
be getting more into provision of services and should
be just a referral service.

Barbara Pohn suggested Nancy contact Mike deZonna at Youth
Services of Elk Grove Township to see if they would like
to takeover the Y.E. S. program.
Nancy requested the clerk/receptionist position be upgraded
to secretary. May be brought up at budget meeting.
Intergenerational Ad/Hoc Committee : Given by Dick Penley
The program is getting spectacularly off the ground. The
Seniors High School Home Economics Class at EGHS prepared
bi-monthly breakfasts for seniors. The Seniors High School
Horticulture Club came over and taught flower arranging.
Dick said the seniors and students got along very well.
Sheila Ray asked that a flower arranging class be taught
by students because the seniors loved it so much. District
214 has given the okay to do this. Seniors complained
about rip offs in car repairs . Seniors can now bring
their cars in for a second opinion at Elk Grove High School
Auto Mechanics twice a month. If Seniors do need service,
they can pay for the parts only or pay $5. 00 for labor.
The seniors are also interested in ceramics and $600-700
worth of greenware was donated for firing. The school
is working on getting a student to teach a ceramics class.
The Seniors need help with seedlings for Arbor Day and
have asked .the high school students for help.
The Board was thrilled to hear about Dick' s fantastic
efforts in coordinating. Dick is planning some good public,
relations .
Elk Grove Distance Classic: Given by Barbara Pohn
The Planning Committee does not have a representative
from the Hospital. Our former representative terminated
her position. Nancy contacted Br. Kennedy and he said
the hospital is still very interested in co-sponsoring
the race and will be assigning someone to represent the
hospital at future committee meetings. Harriet Dalaskey
would like to attend the next meeting.
Board Members Recommendations :
Harriet Dalaskey suggested a parent from District 54 . Other
suggestions were made. The Board wants to try and get
a teacher from Conant who lives west of 53 . Then the
recommendations will be given to Mr. Zettek. There is
no urgency on this but Ray will try to get some suggestions
for members by the next meeting.
Government Surplus Food Distribution Program: Given by
Nancy Eike
Dennis Gallitano feels that the program should be implemented
and he brought this up to the Trustees. The Trustees
raised many issues on who would be eligible (residents
only) , space needed, staff time, etc. The Trustees indicated
they felt Community Service should not coordinate it as
CSB Minutes

Community Service is for referral/information. Dennis
advised that we write Elk Grove Township in this regard
and ask if they would be interested in implementing the
program.
It was mentioned that Nancy Vanderwheel would be a good
contact as she is on the Township Board. Nancy Eike will
be calling her and then will direct a letter to the Township.
Nancy visited the CEDA program during delivery and distribution.
It takes 3 staff days a month for the supervisor with
the aid of 2 other individuals . Nancy was advised that
food distribution should be to the entire Elk Grove Township
rather than just the Village.
Volunteer Recognition Board:
An ad hoc committee needs to be formed. These board members
will be on it: Barbara Rettberg, Ruth Guest, and Dick
Penley, Harriet Dalaskey as alternate .

the floor plan for the existing village building. Scheme
1 & 2 moved Community Service and Social Service Section
upstairs and were more costly. Scheme 3 is that Community
Service and Social Service Section were to remain where
they are . Everyone expressed concern over scheme 3 and
wanted to be notified of further news in this area.
Ruth Guest is concerned about Seniors getting to the new
shopping center. Harriet commented about traffic flow
at Tonne and Landmeier and wants to ask the Village for
a light.
