Ray Gunn welcomed Nancy to Community Services.
Nancy Yiannias and Bob Ray talked about the paint distribution
project. There is a housing and maintenance code. Painting
.the exterior is part of the code. Bob talked to a program
in Texas about the paint project which suggested the Health
Department work with a community service program. Bob
asked DeSoto for supplies but .they did not want to donate
directly to the Health Department. DeSoto may be willing
to work with Community Service. The Health Department
found 5 or 6 houses in the community in need of this help
as -these families are having financial difficulties .
Ray said he would work with Nancy to write a letter to
DeSoto on behalf of the Community Service Board for paint
and supplies. Randy is going to give Nancy the name of
another distributor.
Dick Penley has the kids lined up to work on doing the
painting through the Elk Grove High School. Liability
insurance is through umbrella coverage of District 214 .
Bob Ray feels that most of the recipients will be able
to paint their home along with the teens help.
Mary Pali anoff suggested Eagle Scouts might be helpful
for this as well do it as a project.
The winter months will give Community Service the chance
to get supplies as the project will have to wait until

United Way Needs Assessment was completed. The top 5
indicated needs by residents were :

3 . Child Abuse Services

5. Sexual Abuse Services
Currently United Way agencies address these priorities
but the community is very concerned about drug/alcohol

Chicago Bulls Coach, to come talk to the schools on "Saying
No to Drugs" . Mary suggested he speak to the Junior Highs.
The consensus was to try that first.

Task Force to address this.
3 . Child Abuse and Sexual Abuse services .

5 . Single Parent Services - to help with this Nancy is
going to try and get Big Brothers/Big Sisters more involved
in the community and will look at other means.
Nancy attended Elder Abuse Project Consortium and is joining
task force to publicize the .services and lobby for legislation.
