Roger Schindel Sheila Rudden - Senior, Elk Grove High School Tim Leverenz - Senior, Elk Grove High School Call to Order : The meeting was called to order at 8 : 00 p.m. Discussion of Illinois Citizenship Experience by Elk Grove High School Students - Dick Penley introduced the two students who have gone to an Illinois Citizenship Experience which this board helped to fund. The Illinois Citizenship Experience was described by Sheila Rudden, a senior at Elk Grove High School, whose area of interest is Psychology, and Tim Leverenz, also a senior at Elk Grove High School, whose area of interest is business. They saw films and heard many lectures on government and how it works. They learned about state laws. They visited the Illinois State Police Crime Lab, the Department of Agriculture, the State Board of Education, the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, the State Board of Elections and a Frank Lloyd Wright House. Members of the Department of Commerce, the Transportation Department and the Chamber of Commerce spoke to them. They were able to meet with Gov. Thompson. They also met with students who had participated in this Citizenship Experience in the past. They said they had learned many valuable things which they couldn't learn from books. Sheila and Tim thanked the Board for their support and assistance in funding this program. Approval of Minutes: Dick Penley motioned to approve the minutes. Bro. Kennedy seconded the motion. Motion carried. Coordinator' s Report : Given by Karin Epe Written report is attached. The monthly information and referral reports are now on computer printout. The printout of the monthly report as well as the agency listings were shown to the board. CSB Minutes Page two The Youth Employment Service recruitment visit to Grove Junior High School was a huge success. Over 100 new applications were received and are now being loaded into the computer. This spring' s recruitment is being -done at Grove Junior High and Elk Grove High School since those schools west of 53 were the focus of the fall recruitment. The new Senior Citizen Handbooks have been completed and a copy was shown to the board. Community Service was asked to assist in promoting Hands Across America scheduled for May 25 . There was not much information available about it but it was presented to the board. It was suggested that a poster be hung up in the Community Service office and brochures be made available. Coordination of Services : Given by Barbara Pohn The program for May will be next week at Channel 6 . The subject is "Substance/Alcohol Abuse - Partnership of Community, School and Youth. " The presentors are Mary Corraza and Christie Bontsema from the In Touch program at the Elk Grove Schaumburg Townships Mental Health Center. Elk Grove Distance Classic Planning Committee: Given by Barbara Pohn Planning is going along all right. Some problems revolving around an insurance request from the Forest Preserve have developed . The problems are expected to be worked out. A planning meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19th. Intergenerational Ad Hoc. Committee : Given by Dick Penley Dick met with Sheila Ray; attached to the minutes are suggestions which came out of this meeting. Their next meeting is scheduled for May 22. Personnel Committee : Deferred to Executive Session. Old Business : The Living Bank Organ Donation Program: Discussion tabled due to Harriet Dalaskey' s absence. Stop O' Hare Noise Rally: On May 13th Marge Mahoney participated in the Stop O' Hare Noise Rally in Springfield. She went to Springfield on a bus with individuals representing suburbs nearer O' Hare. To her knowledge she was the only representative from Elk Grove. She says there is much work yet to be done as it appears to be an uphill battle. New Business : The Board would like to see an organized effort through service organizations and churches on getting clothing CSB Minutes Page three for the Elk Grove Community Day Care Center. Karin will contact the Day Care Center to see how this can be implemented. The Board went into Executive Session at 9 :29 p.m. The Board reconvened at 9 : 35 p.m. Dick Penley motioned adjournment.
