Call to Order :
The meeting was called to order at 8 :02 p.m. Dick Penley
motioned to approve the minutes . Marge Mahoney seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
Coordinator' s Report: Given by Lynette Swanson
Written report is attached. Tentative results of United
Way Needs Assessment Survey have been hand tabulated.
Results are attached. Point -values were determined by
giving "High Need" 3 points, "Average Need" 1 point and
"No Need" -1 point. The United Way will be purchasing
a computer at which time more sophisicated results will
be available. It was noted that churches indicated Information
and Referral as a need and it was suggested that, perhaps
another mailing of the Community Service brochure highlighting
the information and referral service would be appropriate
at this time.
1, 100 copies of the revised Senior Citizen Handbook are
on order. They are being printed by the Library at a
very low cost. Last year 500 of the handbooks were distributed,
this being the reason for the large number of copies
currently on order.
The Rohlwing Grove needs survey results have been tabulated.
There have been no definite plans made in response to
this as of yet. At present the highest need appears
to be food and clothing resources . One suggestion under
consideration included a rummage sale for the residents
of Rohwling Grove, the proceeds from which could go to
the Day Care Center food pantry.
Coordination of Services: Given by Barbara Pohn
The program for April was "Techniques for Family Therapy. "
The Program was given by duRee Bryant, Director of The
Village of Schaumburg Family Counseling Center and the
Coordinator for the Employee Assistance Program for Schaumburg.

and Mary Carraza from Elk Grove Schaumburg Township Mental
Health Centers "In Touch" program. This program will
be aired on Cable T.V.
Elk Grove Distance Classic Planning Committee : Given
by Barbara Pohn
Barbara reported that planning is coming along fine. Marge
Mahoney has managed to procure a 13" Zenith Color T.V.
from Pearson T.V. to be used as a prize for the race.
Suggestions for the $200 allocated last month for a prize
included a gift certificate from a local sporting goods
store, however there is no sporting goods store in Elk
Grove . The nearest is in Arlington Heights . Another
suggestion was a Gortex running suit. It was decided
to leave this decision up to the committee.
Bro. Philip offered to donate another $200 from Alexian
Brothers Medical Center to buy another prize. What this
prize will be is still open to suggestion.
Intergenerational Ad Hoc Committee : Given by Dick Penley
Dick spoke with Sheila Ray from the Senior Center who
was extremely enthusiastic and would like to see the
program begin as soon as possible. There will be a meeting
with Sheila Ray on April 23rd. The primary goal of this
meeting will be to get kids to pariticipate. Suggestions
of possible sources for kids included church group and
schools . It was also suggested that this program not
be used in conjunction with the rehabilitation needs
of the kids involved.
Personnel Committee :
Deferred to Executive Session.
Volunteer Recognition Committee : Given by Marge Mahoney
Awards were given at the Annual Awards Dinner which proved
to be a very successful event. The recipients of the
award expressed their appreciation for the recognition
plaques they received.
Old Business :
The Living Bank Organ Donation Program - Given by Harriet
Dalaskey. Harriet discussed the "Organ Donor" cards
which are passed out with drivers license renewals.
She would like to pursue a more indepth awareness program
and intends to contact local hospitals for support
New Business :
Marge Mahoney brought up the rally which was held recently
to combat the O'Hare Noise Problem. There will be buses
going to Springfield from nearby suburbs on May 13th
in support of the formation of a noise abatement committee.
The concerns of this committee would include : regulation

of night flights, regulation of flight patterns , no new
O' Hare runways and testing of toxic fumes resulting from
the aircraft. Marge suggested that Elk Grove also be
represented in Springfield. Bro. Philip motioned to
support Marge Mahoney' s idea and requested that Lynette
Swanson communicate to the Village President, the Board ' s
wish that the Village promote and financially sponsor
a bus to Springfield for the May 13th "Stop O' Hare Noise
Rally. " Harriet Dalaskey seconded; motion carried.
The Community Service Board Handbook was updated and
copies were given to the Board Members .
