Roger Schindel Mary Paliganoff Dick Penley Staff : Barbara Pohn Lynette Swanson Barbara Rettberg Terri Puhr Karin Epe Call to Order : The meeting was called to order at 8 :02 p.m. Dick Penley motioned to approve the minutes . Marge Mahoney seconded the motion. Motion carried. Coordinator' s Report: Given by Lynette Swanson Written report is attached. Tentative results of United Way Needs Assessment Survey have been hand tabulated. Results are attached. Point -values were determined by giving "High Need" 3 points, "Average Need" 1 point and "No Need" -1 point. The United Way will be purchasing a computer at which time more sophisicated results will be available. It was noted that churches indicated Information and Referral as a need and it was suggested that, perhaps another mailing of the Community Service brochure highlighting the information and referral service would be appropriate at this time. 1, 100 copies of the revised Senior Citizen Handbook are on order. They are being printed by the Library at a very low cost. Last year 500 of the handbooks were distributed, this being the reason for the large number of copies currently on order. The Rohlwing Grove needs survey results have been tabulated. There have been no definite plans made in response to this as of yet. At present the highest need appears to be food and clothing resources . One suggestion under consideration included a rummage sale for the residents of Rohwling Grove, the proceeds from which could go to the Day Care Center food pantry. Coordination of Services: Given by Barbara Pohn The program for April was "Techniques for Family Therapy. " The Program was given by duRee Bryant, Director of The Village of Schaumburg Family Counseling Center and the Coordinator for the Employee Assistance Program for Schaumburg. Next month' s program will be on alcohol/drug abuse. This program will be presented by Christine Bantsema CSB Minutes Page two and Mary Carraza from Elk Grove Schaumburg Township Mental Health Centers "In Touch" program. This program will be aired on Cable T.V. Elk Grove Distance Classic Planning Committee : Given by Barbara Pohn Barbara reported that planning is coming along fine. Marge Mahoney has managed to procure a 13" Zenith Color T.V. from Pearson T.V. to be used as a prize for the race. Suggestions for the $200 allocated last month for a prize included a gift certificate from a local sporting goods store, however there is no sporting goods store in Elk Grove . The nearest is in Arlington Heights . Another suggestion was a Gortex running suit. It was decided to leave this decision up to the committee. Bro. Philip offered to donate another $200 from Alexian Brothers Medical Center to buy another prize. What this prize will be is still open to suggestion. Intergenerational Ad Hoc Committee : Given by Dick Penley Dick spoke with Sheila Ray from the Senior Center who was extremely enthusiastic and would like to see the program begin as soon as possible. There will be a meeting with Sheila Ray on April 23rd. The primary goal of this meeting will be to get kids to pariticipate. Suggestions of possible sources for kids included church group and schools . It was also suggested that this program not be used in conjunction with the rehabilitation needs of the kids involved. Personnel Committee : Deferred to Executive Session. Volunteer Recognition Committee : Given by Marge Mahoney Awards were given at the Annual Awards Dinner which proved to be a very successful event. The recipients of the award expressed their appreciation for the recognition plaques they received. Old Business : The Living Bank Organ Donation Program - Given by Harriet Dalaskey. Harriet discussed the "Organ Donor" cards which are passed out with drivers license renewals. She would like to pursue a more indepth awareness program and intends to contact local hospitals for support New Business : Marge Mahoney brought up the rally which was held recently to combat the O'Hare Noise Problem. There will be buses going to Springfield from nearby suburbs on May 13th in support of the formation of a noise abatement committee. The concerns of this committee would include : regulation CSB Minutes Page three of night flights, regulation of flight patterns , no new O' Hare runways and testing of toxic fumes resulting from the aircraft. Marge suggested that Elk Grove also be represented in Springfield. Bro. Philip motioned to support Marge Mahoney' s idea and requested that Lynette Swanson communicate to the Village President, the Board ' s wish that the Village promote and financially sponsor a bus to Springfield for the May 13th "Stop O' Hare Noise Rally. " Harriet Dalaskey seconded; motion carried. The Community Service Board Handbook was updated and copies were given to the Board Members . The Board went into Executive Session at 9 : 00 p.m. The Board reconvened at 9 : 09 p.m. Harriet Dalaskey motioned adjournment. Ray Gunn seconded it.
