MEETING MINUTES

Introduction:
The Community Service Board invited Will Koslowski , director
of Hersey High School ' s S.O. S. program (Service Over
Self ) , to speak about his program, which utilizes teens
in various community service projects. There are many
projects which involve working with children, handicapped
individuals, disadvantaged families and senior citizens.
Mr. Koslowski showed a slide-tape of his program and
there was discussion on how similar activities could
be undertaken in Elk Grove.
Sheila Ray, Coordinator of the Grant Wood Senior Center
spoke about projects in which teens could help seniors
from personal grooming to transportation and socialization.
A major need for the elderly seniors is day care programming
in the form of companionship and escort services. Sheila
offered to meet with the Board ' s Intergenerational Program
Committee to pursue potential senior/teen projects. Sheila
invited Board members to attend Grant Wood Senior Center' s
Open House on the .evening of September 25th.
Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 8 : 42 p.m. Dick Penley
motioned to approve the minutes. Marge Mahoney seconded
the motion. Motion approved.
Coordinator ' s Report: Given by Lynette Swanson
Written report is attached. In addition, Lynette reported
the computer program for the Youth Employment Service
is ready for use. Data on the job applicants is being
fed into the computer.

Coordination of Service Committee : Given by Barbara
Pohn
The first meeting of the 85/86 program year featured
Tom Johnson speaking on "Intensive Family Services : Home
Based Therapy for Families at Risk. " About 20 people
attended the meeting at Elk Grove Library. Next month' s
meeting is on "Adult Children of Alcoholics" .
Elk Grove Distance Classic: Given by Lynette Swanson
501 runners registered for the race. It was a gorgeous
day and a big success. Close to $3 ,000 •was netted to
benefit local youth programs . The Allocations Sub-committee
needs to meet to propose ways of spending these funds .
Budget Committee:
Lynette suggested that since last year the Board felt
rushed through the budget process, that the Committee
meet in October to begin planning for the 1986-87 fiscal
year.
Personnel Committee: Given by Ray Gunn
The Board will be completing the Coordinator ' s evaluation
during executive session of the October Board meeting.
PLUS Advisory Council : Given by Lynette Swanson
The PLUS Advisory Council is in the process of trying
to redirect its energies to form a citien' s/parent ' s
task force on drug and alcohol abuse. A meeting to recruit
citizen participation is being scheduled for Wednesday,
October 23 , 1985.
Old Business :
Board Organization Meeting: The Board has been surveyed
regarding the expenditure of $200 for the services of
Bill Howard and Alice Wright for the Board organizational
meeting on October lst. This expenditure was approved
by a majority of the Board members . The meeting will
be held at the Village Grove Club House from 7 p.m. to
10 P.M. Lynette will send out notices to Board members
along with material from our last meeting with Bill Howard.
Volunteer Recruitment for House Painting: Barbara Rettberg
contacted Elk Grove High School regarding the need for
a local Key Club. The High School is not sponsoring
a Key Club as there is no facility person willing to
accept the responsibility. Carl VanGundy of the Park
District ' s teen program is trying to recruit kids to
help out with painting this home in the Village.
Organ Donations : Harriet Dalaskey has researched the
process of donating organs. She contacted the Living
Bank in Houston and shared material she received from

them. Harriet is interested in promoting community awareness
as it pertains to donating human organs, when a person
has died. Harriet reported she will continue to research
the topic and report back at our next meeting.
New Business :
Chemically Free Teen Program: The Board would like to
ask Debbie Cormier to address our November Board meeting
at 8 p.m. Debbie has set up a chemically free teen program
at Schaumburg High School . The Board decided that it
was not necessary for Margaret Kelly of •,the A.D.D. program
to address the Board at our October meeting.
Dick Penley motioned to adjourn. Marge Mahoney seconded
the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9 :28
p.m.
Rev. Schindel arrived and received a recap of the meeting
from Lynette Swanson.
