Roger Schindel Staff : Ruth Guest Lynette Swanson Terri Puhr Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 8 :00 p.m. Dick Penley motioned to approve the minutes of October' s Board meeting. ' Randy Melind seconded it. Motion carried. Coordinator ' s Report : Given by Lynette Swanson The Coordinator ' s Report was submitted in writing ( copy attached ) . Donations for Thanksgiving are being organized. The Rotary Club donated $250 for food certificates ; Lions donated $150 in food certificates, along with canned goods ; and the Kiwanis Club donated $200 for certificates . '. Other clubs making contributions include the Junior Women ' s Club, the Jaycee Women and the Queen of the Rosary Renew Group. Lynette and Terri are working with Elk Grove Schaumburg Townships Mental Health Center on an outreach program with Rohlwing Grove Apartments . This will entail on site interviews and program development; programs will be offered there at the complex. Some of these education programs would include practical ones such as energy savings to help reduce utility bills . The meeting for alcohol/drug education did not draw people . Only one person showed up for it. No further activity in this area is being pursued at this time. There was a special meeting to start the Elk Grove Township Committee for Disabled Citizens , which is being chaired by Judith Stone who has M.S. This committee will deal with special problems of the handicapped. They will meet once a month on the second Tuesday at 7 :00 p.m. at Elk Grove Township Hall. Lynette will attend these meetings . Coordination of Services : Given by Barbara Pohn November ' s meeting was on adolescent disorders, diagnosis and treatment. Presenters were Dr. Richard Stern, psychologist CSB MINUTES Page two and Dr . De Sa Pereira, psychiatrist. They are on staff at Lake Shore and Barclay Hospital . Twenty-five people attended. "Elk Grove Distance Classic : Given by Barbara Pohn Barbara Pohn presented the following recommendations for expenditures of the proceeds from the Elk Grove Distance Classic. As previously decided, these were divided 20% for schools , 35% for agencies, 35% for the Park District and 10% for contingencies . SCHOOLS : Elk Grove High School . Brochures for Operation Snowball (Already Allocated ) and $ 100 . Operation Snowball Scholarships 60 . Elk Grove High School Running Team for a Measuring Wheel ( $175 ) and for Uniforms ( $50 ) 225 . Conant High School for Chemical Reaction Team Training Scholarship 125 . Grove Junior High for Apple Super Serial Interface Card 100 . Margaret Mead Student Leadership Camp 83 . $ 693 . AGENCIES : A.D.D. (Alcoholism and Drug Dependency Program) for Kids Program for Coping with Alcoholic Families $ 200 . Youth Services of Elk Grove Township for $ . 845 . Bar Stools 100 . Foosball Table 315 . Stereo System 370 . Cue Balls 60 . $1, 045 . PARK DISTRICT: Development of Children ' s Programming for Channel 6 $1, 213 . Total allocated $2 , 951 . Amount left to be allocated $517 . Barbara Pohn motioned to approve the allocation report as submitted . Randy Melind seconded it. Motion carried. Budget Committee : Given by Ruth Guest The proposed budget for fiscal year 86-87 was submitted. CSB MINUTES Page three The total amount being requested is $61, 146 . Dick Penley moved that we approve the budget as submitted by the Budget Committee. Ruth Guest seconded it. Motion carried. Personnel Committee: Report deferred to Executive Session. Intergenerational Committee : Given by Dick Penley Dick will be meeting with Sheila Ray, Director of the Grant Wood Senior Center. In early talks with her, she has indicated she is very interested in this type of program. Old Business : Board Organizational Meeting - The Board reviewed the Strategic Planning data as developed by Bill Howard and Alice Wright in conjunction with the Board. The three priorities right now are: the Living Bank, the Intergenerational Program Meeting and Government Surplus Food Distribution. In addition, Lynette is working on emergency shelter, the latch-key program and outreach to single parents, all projects which were discussed at our organizational meeting. The strategic planning for the Board will be discus:;ed further at our January meeting. The Living Bank - Harriet Dalaskey is still reviewing all the information and hopes to have it altogether by our next meeting. Government Surplus Food Distribution - The Board reviewed the proposal for the implementation of this program through the Community. Service office. It was suggested that two surveys be completed to see if this is feasible - one to find out from comparable agencies the amount of administrative time necessary to do the program, and the second, to find out if local service organizations and churches have volunteers willing to assist with the program. Lynette will report back at our next meeting. New Business : Next Board Meeting - The Board decided to cancel its December Board meeting. The Community Service Board has met its mandate by already meeting eleven times this year. A Christmas party is scheduled for Thursday, December 12th at 7 :00 p.m. at the Village Grove Clubhouse. Publicity for Food Pantry - Mary Paliganoff suggested publicizing the need for food for the food pantry in times other then the holidays. Volunteer Recognition Program - Efforts to select outstanding volunteer for this recognition are being initiated. Lynette has submitted an article to be put in December ' s newsletter. CSB MINUTES Page four {' Christmas Red Kettle Drive - Volunteers are needed. We are a little short of last year ' s level of volunteer coverage for the manning of the Red Kettles at Jewel, Michaels and Jarosch. Again, we will man this drive during the first three weekends in December. Several Community Service Board members volunteered to assist with this effort. The Board went into Executive Session at 9 : 45 p.m. The Board reconvened at 9 :50 p.m. Dick Penley moved to adjourn. Mary Paliganoff seconded the motion.
