MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON JUNE 15, 2010
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of May 18, 2010 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. None
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Letter from Lt. Michael Harris announcing his retirement from the Elk Grove
Village Fire Department effective May 31, 2010 after 31+years of service.
2. Letter from Firefighter Daniel T. Lamka announcing his retirement from the Elk
Grove Village Fire Department effective May 31, 2010 after 34 years of service.
3. Letter from Deputy Chief Albert Vrshek announcing his retirement from the Elk
Grove Village Fire Department effective June 1, 2010 after 32+years of service.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Commission Attorney's response regarding rule change.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board change its Rules and Regulations, Article H, Original Appointment, Section
4, List of Eligibles as follows:
REMOVE:
g. List Extension -The Commission may vote to grant a total of one(1) six(6)
month extension or creation of a new list,whichever occurs first.
REPLACE WITH:
g. List Extension -The Commission may vote to extend the list in six (6) month
increments for as long as they deem necessary.

The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared
the motion carried.
2. Extension of Police Officer Eligibility List
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Secretary Ehrke that the
Commission extend the current police officer eligibility list six month. The list
will remain in effect until February 1, 2011.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the
motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
1. None
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—four vacancies on hold at this time. Twenty-seven names remain
on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on February 1, 2011.
2. Firefighter—three vacancies. Thirty-six names remain on the current eligibility
list scheduled to expire on July 18, 2010.
3. Police Sergeant Eligibility List —Ten names appear on the eligibility list scheduled
to expire on February 4, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant List—Eleven names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to
expire on January 6, 2012.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
