MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2010
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. Guests present: Fire Chief David Miller, Fire Training
Officer Michael Loesch.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of August 17, 2010 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. None

CORRESPONDENCE
1. Special Order 2010-1002 from Chief Miller. Due to the retirement of Lieutenant
Michael Harris, Firefighter Mark W. Percudani will be promoted to the rank of
Lieutenant effective 0800 hours, 23 August 2010. Village Manager approval
attached.
2. Special Order 2010-1003 from Chief Miller. Temporary appointment of F/F Kevin
Nejedlo to the rank of Lieutenant effective 31 August 2010 to fill the vacancy
created when Lt. Naida was deployed to the Middle East. Village Manager
approval obtained.
3. Resolution #51-10 from Village Board adopting the Fire & Police Commission
Rule Change to extend initial appointment eligibility lists in six month increments
for as long as they deem necessary.
OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Fire Chief to discuss department staffing needs and firefighter
applicant requirements.
2. Discussed firefighter testing process, schedule, applicant requirements and
preference points. Refer to Firefighter Hiring Packet and Fact Sheet 2010 for
details. Written examination scheduled for Saturday, November 20, 2010.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—five vacancies on hold at this time. Twenty-seven names remain
on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on February 1, 2011.
2. Firefighter—five vacancies on hold at this time. The eligibility list expired.on July
18, 2010. Testing process initiated.
3. Police Sergeant Eligibility List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which
will expire on February 4, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant List—Eleven names appear on the eligibility list which will expire
on January 6, 2012.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
