MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON DECEMBER 21,2010
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of November 16, 2010 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
I. Daily Herald, Invoice#T4238881 dated 11/06/2010 in the amount of$51.30 for
publication of legal notice (Resolution #51-10 from Village Board adopting the Fire
& Police Commission Rule Change).
2. Daily Herald, Invoice#T4238913 dated 11/06/2010 in the amount of$1,024.00 for
employment ad for the position of Firefighter.
3. Office Depot, Invoice 543667814001 dated 12/07/2010 in the amount of$200.82 for
office supplies.
4. Police Consultants, Invoice 5515 dated 11/22/2010 in the amount of$16,947.00 for
administration of firefighter entry exam.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Secretary declared the motion carried.

1. Notice of Retirement- Lieutenant Edward Ogorek effective November 17, 2010
after thirty years of service.
2. Notice of Retirement - Firefighter William Reid effective November 16, 2010 after
thirty years of service.
3. Notice of Retirement-Firefighter Fred Hanselman effective November 16, 2010
after thirty years of service.
4. Notice of Retirement- Lieutenant Gary Sterzel effective December 20, 2010 after
thirty years of service.
5. Notice of Retirement-Lieutenant James Johnson effective December 20, 2010.

6. Retirement congratulations letters sent to Lt. Ogorek, Firefighter Reid, Firefighter
Hanselman, Lt. Sterzel, Lt. Johnson, Deputy Chief Vrshek, Firefighter Lamka,
Firefighter Hopkins, Firefighter Schlottman, and Lt. Harris.
7. Promotional Materials from Performance Training Systems, Inc., offering testing
services for fire and emergency medical service personnel.
8. Written Reprimand issued to Police Officer dated November 13, 2010 for violating
Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.IA,
Rules of Conduct, Rule 09 ( Inattention to Duty); Rule 04 (Making a False Police
Report); and Rule 35 (Failure to Keep Vehicle in Public View).
9. Special Order 2010-1005 from Fire Chief David Miller appointing Temporary
Acting Lieutenant Kevin R, Nejedlo to the rank of Lieutenant effective November
22, 2010 (replacing Lt. Edward Ogorek).
10. Special Order 2010-1006 from Fire Chief David Miller appointing Firefighter Todd
A. Rishling to the rank of Temporary Lieutenant effective November 22, 2010 (due
to the overseas deployment of Lt. Ronald Naida).
11. Special Order 2010-1007from Fire Chief David Miller appointing Firefighter Lance
R. Harris to the rank of Temporary Lieutenant effective November 22, 2010
(replacing Lt. John G. Guglielmo).
12. Notice of Suspension dated December 17, 2010 issued to Police Officer for violating
Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section
26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 02 (Action or Conduct which impedes the
Department's efforts to achieve its goals or brings discredit upon the Department);
and Rule 09 (Inattention to Duty). One day suspension to be served January 5, 2011.
13. Notice of Suspension dated December 20, 2010 issued to Police Officer for violating
Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A,
Rules of Conduct, Rule 04 (Disobedience of an order, written or oral); Rule 14(
Making a false report written or oral); and Rule 27 (Failure to obey Department
orders concerning other employment, occupation or profession). Four day
suspension to be served on January 5, January 20, February 1, and February 17,
2011.

ELIGIBILITY LIST I HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—five vacancies on hold at this time. Twenty-seven names remain
on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on February 1, 2011

2. Firefighter—ten vacancies on hold at this time. Our most recent firefighter
eligibility list expired on July 18, 2010. A written examination was administered
on November 20, 2010. 218 individuals passed that examination, and the top
scoring 100 individuals recently underwent group oral interviews. The results of
those interviews are currently being tabulated by Police Consultants, Inc.
3. Police Sergeant Eligibility List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which
will expire on February 4, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on
January 6, 2012.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
