MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON JANUARY 18, 2011
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of December 21, 2010 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Police Consultants, Invoice 5530 dated 0110412011 in the amount of'S2,218.00 for
processing 88 multiple group interview assessments.
2. Oltosen Britz Kelly Cooper & Gilbert, Lld., Invoice 123110 in the amount of
$1,200.00 for 2011 retainer fee.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Secretary declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice of Retirement - Lieutenant John Guglielmo effective January 16, 2011.
2. Notice of Retirement—Firefighter Gerald Quinlan effective January 23, 2011.
3. Retirement congratulations letters to Lt. Guglielmo and Firefighter Quinlan.
4. Special Order#2010-1009 from Fire Chief David Miller appointing Temporary Lt.
Todd Rishling to permanent Lieutenant effective 20,December 2010 (due to the
retirement of Lt. Gary Sterzel),
5. Special Order#2010-1010 from Fire Chief David Miller appointing Temporary Lt.
Lance Harris to permanent Lieutenant effective 20 December 2010 (due to the
retirement of Lt. James Johnson).
6. Special Order#2011-1000 from Fire Chief David Miller appointing Firefighter John
J. Kelly to the rank of Lieutenant effective 17 January 2011 (due to the retirement of
Lt. John G. Guglielmo).
7. Notice of Suspension dated January 11, 2011 to Police Officer for violating Rules
and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.]A, Rules

of Conduct, Rule 49 (Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled). Three
day suspension to be served beginning March 6, 2011.
OLD BUSINESS
None
NEW BUSINESS
1. Extension of Police Officer Eligibility List
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Secretary Ehrke that the
Commission extend the current police officer eligibility list. The list will remain
in effect until August 1, 2011. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—five vacancies on hold at this time. Twenty-seven names remain
on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on August 1, 2011.
2. Firefighter—twelve vacancies on hold at this time. New eligibility list containing
35 names was published on January 7, 2011.
3. Police Sergeant Eligibility List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which
will expire on February 4, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on
January 6, 2012.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
