MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON SEPTEMBER 20,2011
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of August 23, 2011 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert&DiNolfo, Ltd., 1804 N.Naper Blvd., Ste, 350,
Naperville, IL 60563. Invoice 52794 dated 8/31/2011 in the amount of 285.00 for
legal services associated with Klingsporn hearing.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Written Reprimand dated 9/12/2011 issued to police officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Rules of Conduct, Rule 46
(Failure to operate Village vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, or to obey related
traffic laws.
2. Notice of Retirement from Officer Kathleen Balek effective September 29, 2011,
after thirty years of service.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police officer testing process and schedule.

NEW BUSINESS
1. None.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—nine vacancies on hold at this time. Eligibility list expired. New
testing process to commence in October.
2. Firefighter—two vacancies. All names on current eligibility list have been
exhausted. Processing candidates through the multiple group interview phase to
create a second final eligibility list. Current register of applicants scheduled to
expire on January 7, 2013.
3. Police Sergeant Eligibility List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which will
expire on February 4, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant List—Ten names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on
January 6, 2012. Next promotional process to commence on or after May 21, 2012
per notification to IAFF Local 2340 dated May 21, 2011.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
