New Business/Trustee Liaison Inaugural Meeting This is the initial meeting of the newly formed Health & Community Services Advisory Committee. The Committee is comprised of former members of the Board of Health & Community Services. Duties and Tasks- The Committee will be a purely advisory group. Although the Board of Health & Community Services duties had been downscaled with the reorganization of the Department of Health & Community Services, the Mayor and Village Board felt that the member's services would continue to be a valuable resource to the Village, and their combined knowledge and expertise in regards to health and human services would be an asset as the Village moves forward. Committee members could at times initiate the need for a meeting or report when they perceive a problem, or raise a concern that could affect the health or human welfare of the community. Committee Member Update- Michael Cavallini, former Director of the Department of Health & Community Services, and Board of Health & Community Services Meeting Facilitator has been appointed to the Health and Community Services Advisory Committee and will assume the position of Co-Chairman. Committee Organization- The Committee will be comprised of nine (9) members down from the current 13. All current members will continue to serve on the committee. The final number will be achieved by attrition. Meeting Format- With this change from a Board to a Committee there will be no direct contact between various department staff (Community Services, Environmental Health, Community Health Nursing and Recycling) and the Committee unless required by the Mayor and Village Board, Department Heads overseeing the various activities, or as needed by the Committee to complete its required duties or objectives. The various staff (see above) will still be required to provide updates and reports to the Committee on a quarterly basis (coincides with meeting schedule), or as needed to complete a required or assigned task. Department heads/staff may be asked to appear at a Committee meeting to provide information or reports needed to accomplish Committee tasks or goals. The Committee will continue to officiate at hearings for food establishments according to the provisions stated in the Elk Grove Village Municipal Code. Changes to the Village Municipal Code will be made over the next few months to reflect the changes in the new structure of the new Committee. Formal meeting minutes will not be taken at future Committee meetings unless required. The Committee will gather meeting notes to maintain record of future meetings. Scheduled Meeting Dates- The Health & Community Services Advisory Committee will meet regularly on a quarterly schedule (Jan/April/July/Oct). The meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the before indicated months. Quarterly meetings will be cancelled if no immediate concerns need to be addressed or investigated. Quarterly meeting notices regarding cancellation or notice to attend will be sent out (electronically/by mail) one to two weeks prior to the regularly scheduled meeting. The Committee may also meet on an "As Needed Basis" any time during the year. Staff Reports/New Business- The Committee reviewed the quarterly reports submitted by the various department staff. No new business was discussed. Next scheduled meeting will be held January 18, 2012. Minutes respectfully submitted by Michael Cavallini.
