MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING VILLAGE CLERK'S OFFICE
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NOVEMBER 17,2011
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of October 25, 2011 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
I. Stanard& Associates, Invoice SA000018748 dated 10/31/2011 in the amount of
$1,158.74 for testing administration fee.
2. Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, Invoice#2011-399 dated 10/28/2011 in the
amount of$8,970.00 for(390) Police Officer Selection Test booklets.
3. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice 419010 dated 08/01/2011 in the amount of
$1,425.00 for medical evaluations for three(3) firefighter candidates.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Letter of Resignation from Firefighter Bethany Policky effective 11/28/2011.
2. Notice of Retirement from Firefighter Bret Cassata effective 11/19/2011 after twenty
years of service.
3. Email from Village Manager authorizing the Fire&Police Commission to hire three
firefighters.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police sergeant testing process. Will schedule a meeting with Stanard and
Associates to discuss components and pricing.

NEW BUSINESS
1. None
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—ten vacancies; authorized to hire three; processing 119 candidates
through the group interview stage. 309 names appear on the preliminary eligibility
list.
2. Firefighter—five vacancies; authorized to hire three. Sixteen names appear on the
final eligibility list published on November 4, 2011; Fifty-nine names remain on the
preliminary eligibility list. List is scheduled to expire on January 7, 2013
3. Police Sergeant —Ten names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on
February 4,2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Ten names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
January 6, 2012; however,per agreement with IAFF Local 2340, list will remain in
effect until April 6, 2012. Next promotional process to commence on or after May
21, 2012 per notification to IAFF Local 2340 dated May 21, 2011.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
