MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MARCH 20, 2012
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. Guests present: Deputy Fire Chief Scott Miller and Dr.
Lory Special of Stanard&Associates.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of February 21, 2012 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Stanard&Associates, Inc.,Invoice SA000019615 dated 03/20/2012 in the amount
of$6,236.87 (invoice 2 of 2)for custom written examination for police sergeant
promotional process, development of assessment exercises, consulting, and travel
expenses.
2. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3185 dated 3/20/2012 in the amount of
$810.00 for polygraph evaluations for six (6) police officer candidates.
3. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice 439269 dated 03/01/2012 in the amount of
$1,535.00 for medical evaluations for three(3) firefighter candidates.
4. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3178 dated 03/15/2012 in the amount of
$270.00 for polygraph examinations for two (2)police officer candidates.
5. Mendelsohn and Mendelsohn, Invoice 022312 dated 02/23/2012 in the amount of
$2,500.00 for psychological evaluations for five(5)police officer candidates.
6. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3144 dated 02/20/2012 in the amount of
$135.00 for polygraph examinations for one (1)police officer candidate.
7. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice 436868 dated 02/01/2012 in the amount of
$475.00 for medical evaluation of one(1) firefighter candidate.
It was moved by Secretary Ebrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of fiords for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Appointment letters to two Police Officers(Justin A. Wedekind and Anthony L.
Mazzuca). Hire date 03/26/2012.
2. Letter from Advocate Occupational Health announcing pricing structure changes.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police sergeant testing process and schedule.
2. Discussed police officer hiring process.
3. Discussed firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Stanard and Associates to discuss fire lieutenant promotional process.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/AIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—eight vacancies;authorized to hire two. Forty-six names remain on
the final eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—one vacancy. Twelve names appear on the final eligibility list
published on November 4, 2011; fifty-nine names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list. List is scheduled to expire on January 7, 2013.
3. Police Sergeant—Eligibility list has expired. New promotional process commenced
on February 16, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Ten names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
January 6, 2012. However, per agreement with IAFF Local 2340, list will remain in
effect until April 6, 2012. Next promotional process to commence on or after May
21, 2012 per notification to IAFF Local 2340 dated May 21, 2011.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
