MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MAY 10, 2012
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. Guests present: None
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of April 10, 2012 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of Special Meeting conducted on April 20, 2012 be approved as submitted and that
the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Independent Stationers Invoice 0170885 dated 4/27/2012 in the amount of$139.53
for miscellaneous office supplies.
2. Office Depot, Invoice 603629656001 dated 3/29/2012 in the amount of$26.10 for
miscellaneous office supplies.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice of Retirement from Commander Kathryn Endre effective 5/18/2012.
2. Meeting Notice advising that the regularly scheduled meeting of the Fire & Police
Commission to be held on Tuesday,May 15, 2012 was rescheduled to Tuesday,May
10, 2012.
3. Email dated 4/11/2012 from Village Manager regarding the Commission's
scheduling.
4. Notice of Suspension dated 4/9/2012 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 49 (failure to appear in court when required or scheduled). One day
suspension to be served on April 25, 2012.
5. Memo from Chief Schmidt dated 4/30/2012 regarding staffing and promotions.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police officer hiring process.
2. Discussed firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Scheduling - After reviewing and discussing email communication from the Village
Manager, it was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek
that the Board prioritize its schedule and fill all Police Officer and Firefighter
vacancies before moving forward with the Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process.
The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared
the motion carried.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Forty names remain on the final eligibility list published on January
16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary eligibility list
scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014;
2. Firefighter—Eight names appear on the final eligibility list published on November
4, 2011; fifty-nine names remain on the preliminary eligibility list. Firefighter
eligibility lists will expire on January 7, 2013.
3. Police Sergeant—Seven names appear on the new eligibility list which will expire
on April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eligibility list has expired. Next promotional process to
commence on or after May 21, 2012 per notification to IAFF Local 2340 dated May
21, 2011.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
