MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON JUNE 19, 2012
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. Guests present: Attorney John Kelly and Dr. Lory Special
of Stanard and Associates.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of May 10, 2012 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
I. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice 442131 dated 5/29/2012 in the amount of
$950.00 for medical evaluations for two police officer candidates.
2. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice 449875 dated 6/1/2012 in the amount of
$1,320.00 for medical evaluations for three police officer candidates.
3. Mendelsohn and Mendelsohn, Invoice 141512 dated 5/21/2012 in the amount of
$3500.00 for psychological evaluations for seven police officer candidates.
It was moved by Secretary Ebrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Appointment letters to three police officer candidates (Daniel S. Doherty, David
Scott Johnson, Gregory S. Jones). Hire date 7/2/2012.
2. Appointment letter to one firefighter candidate (Jeremy S. Sullivan). Hire date:
7/2/2012.
3. Memo from Chief Schmidt announcing the appointment of Sgt. Nick Olsen to the
rank of Commander effective 6/18/2012.
4. Letter to Police Officer Daniel Burke appointing him to the rank of Police Sergeant
effective 6/18/2012.
5. Letter of Retirement from Firefighter Howard Hall effective 6/24/2012.
6. Update from Attorney John Kelly regarding the New Hiring Bill Information.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police officer hiring process.
2. Discussed firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Discussed the New Hiring Bill with Attorney John Kelly and Dr. Lory Special.
ELIGIBILITY LIST /HERING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Thirty-three six names remain on the final eligibility list published
on January 16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014;
2. Firefighter— Seven names appear on the final eligibility list published on November
4, 2011; fifty-nine names remain on the preliminary eligibility list. List is scheduled
to expire on January 7, 2013.
3. Police Sergeant—Six names appear on the new eligibility list which will expire on
April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eligibility list has expired. Next promotional process to
commence soon.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
